    1. CONN
    2. This query is aimed at any new members who have CONN in their genealogy. I am looking for a Conn line which reportedly went through Pennsylvania early to mid-1700's. It was reported that Henry fought in the American Revolution in York Co., but there's a bounty of circumstantial documentation that pretty much eliminates the possibility that he is the same Henry who fought from York Co. under Capt. Jacob Comfort. Nevertheless, I am still searching for Henry and his son Henry (ancestors and descendants) throughout Pennsylvania. 3. Hello, everyone. First off I want to appologize to anyone who is on more than one of these lists for receiving this message multiple times. Second, I just wanted to let people know of my new website. This was a new experience for me, and it was a lot of fun to put together (even though it's not that complicated a site). This site deals with my entire family tree, so it contains more surnames than just MURPHY. If you get a chance, check it out. It's at http://www.frontiernet.net/~murphy13 I am aware of only one problem at this point (the "Genealogical Links" doesn't work, mainly because I haven't completed that page yet!), but if you find any other problems, or have any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks, and have a great night! Mark

    1. Re: [CONN-L] Notes/Records from Conn Reunions in Indiana
    2. Does anyone know how to contact Krutar? The notes from those reunions would be very valuable, especially for those of us whose Conns attended! According to the story, my great grandfather Henry Clay Conn was responsible for the reunions. Henry Clay Conn was... born June 17, 1844 in Lycoming Co., PA died May 23, 1926 in Pulaski Co., IN married October 21, 1873 Pulaski Co., IN Rebecca Anne Moyer Rebecca was born March 03, 1851 in Pulaski Co., IN died March 07, 1891 in Winamac, Pulaski Co., IN Rebecca's parents were Andrew/Andreas Martin Moyer/Meyer & Leah Neff (I have more on Rebecca's ancestry if anyone's interested.) Reportedly, Henry was responsible for organizing the Conn Family Reunions which first took place Sept. 18, 1921, with the final reunion held August, 1954. The following is an excerpt in Henry's handwriting, published originally as "The History of the Conn Family", as he knew it: "This is the history of my ancestors, the Conns. They were born in Pennsylvania. There were six sons and one daughter in this family. I will give you some of the dates of their coming to Indiana. Uncle Jesse came in 1838. Uncle John came in 1847. Uncle Henry, I do not know the date of his coming. My father David Conn came in 1852. Aunt Polly came in 1947. The two oldest brothers stayed in Pennsylvania. Their names were Ace and Israel. The five families that came to Indiana settled in Cass Co. and Pulaski Co. . .This part of the country was not settled much. I had a chance to know. My father and mother came to Indiana in September, 1852, so I have lived in Cass and Pulaski counties 73 years. . .Now I will tell you people how our fathers and their descendants had to work to make the improvements in this country. . .These settlers had to use the axe, grubbing hoe, maul, cross-cut saw, spade. They built themselves log houses and barns." >From letters of Henry Clay Conn: "I will give you some of the Conn family names. I believe that my great-grandparents were German. They came to this country some time in the beginning of the 17th century. . .My father David Conn was born April 12, 1799, in Pennsylvania. In his younger days he belonged to a horse company and trained for the service. His two older brothers Ace and Israel were drafted but were not called to go to war. Father said that was the War of 1812 in Arkansas at Little Rock. . .From the best history handed down to me, the Conns were among the first settlers of Lycoming Co., PA, and both of our great-grandfathers were revolutionary soldiers under Washington at Valley Forge. . ." He went to school in 1852; it was summer school at Ralston, PA. The same year in September, they moved to Monroe Township, Pulaski Co., IN. He went to school two terms west of Winemac in a log school house in the woods. The seats were low down without back on them. The teachers were women at that time. They were good to the students, and they seemed to learn fast. In 1858 the family moved down to Cass Co., west of Royal Center. He went to school four terms there, and the rest of his schooling was north-west of Royal Center about three miles, at the Hamilton School. The school terms were about three months long. 1. Gallagher, Hamilton, Lord, Cunningham + some
    2. Gallagher
    3. hi-- I am very interested in exchanging information with anybody related to the Gallagher, Hamilton, Lord, Cunningham or Larson families... This may make more sense to a Williamsport native, but ill try to be as clear as possible. My grandfather is Don Wayne Gallagher (b. 1931), son of John Gallagher (b. 1906, who is the son of George Hamilton of Camden (d. 1950s). My grandfather has never been really interested in his family, due to the fact that his family apparently wasnt very close knit. Because of this, i have stories without names, names without connections- problems like that-- for instance, my gggrandfather was a Hamilton, yet his son a gallagher (and George Hamilton's wife was not a Gallagher); John and his siblings I think were all Gallaghers for no reason that I know of. The Cunningham family I know even less about. There was a Mae (May?), a Frances, and a Chuck/Charles. Mae was George Hamiltons wifes sister (his sister-in-law)- and I think Frances was married to Chuck, who was "built like a bull" and when he got drunk, which was not as looked down upon in those days, it took 7 policemen to handle him. He worked at the Lycoming Hotel, where John Gallagher, my ggrandfather, was the head chef. I dont think that Chuck liked John's wife, but i dont know why. My grandfather has also mentioned a Bess Fegley who died at age 90 or so, im guessing in the past 30 years. Im also told by my grandfather that many of his cousins still live in the Williamsport and Loyalsock areas, but the only person who would know them for sure is my grandmother (Sarah Legge, nee Willison), but seeing as she and my grandfather divorced about 30 years ago and arent exactly on friendly terms, i think she would be uncomfortable. Im also interested in finding cousins related to the Biaer, Steinbacher, Eck and McGraw families Adrienne Gallagher

    1. MURPHYs in Williamsport
    2. Mark E. Murphy
    3. Hello, everyone. I subscribed to the list a little while back but am now just sending my first posting. I'm hoping someone can help me. I am researching a MURPHY line that, at one time, went through Northumberland county, namely Milton, but the more recent generations lived in Williamsport. I don't have much info, as my father's generation is the oldest living resource I have, and their knowledge is limited. This is what I have been able to uncover so far: 1) John MURPHY (b. 9/29/1845, d. 11/8/1885) married Laura E. MCCOLLUM on 1/1879 Children: James W. (b. 1879, d. 10/3/1947) See 2 below... Caroline (b. 12/29/1880, d. 4/21/1960) married Walter J. THOMPSON Sallie Mae (b. 3/17/1883, d. 1964) married Joseph WAINWRIGHT 2) James W. MURPHY married Catherine BAIERS (b. 6/19/1882, d. 1/25/1972) on 8/31/1900 Children: William M. (b. 2/2/1901, d. 3/27/1984) See 3 below... Norman L. (b. 11/5/1902, d. 3/14/1983) married Marilyn MCELROY Ella J. (b. 12/7/1905, d. 5/1/1979) married Howard PAYNE 3) William M. MURPHY married Isabel SOUTER (b. 1/23/1910, d. 9/16/1940) on 6/11/1932 Edward S. MURPHY, one of the sons of William and Isabel, is my father. I have some information going back further than John, however, James W. MURPHY and his sisters were the first to reach Williamsport, as far as I can tell. There was also a cousin of John's named Ambrose who, with his wife, Minnie, lived in Williamsport. If anyone has any information on this line, or any of the other surnames mentioned here, I would love to hear from you. I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks for your time in reading this. 1. RESSLER, WILLIAMS, DUVALL, RISLER, HAMILTON,
    2. William A. Davis
    3. A lady I know is in possession of a blank book in which appears to have belonged to a girl named Susan in the 1840's, probably Susan H. FURNISH or DUVALL, and later in possession of a WILLIAMS family around 1900. It has poems in it addressed "To Susan," many of them written in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at places such as Jersey Shore, Pine Creek, Hall, The poem is in an autograph book that says some names in it from Sanders, Kentucky, and a lot of material was written into the book in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, with places like Jersey Shore, Pine Creek, Williamsport, and Mill Hall, which is in nearby Clinton County, Pennsylvania. This book was previously owned by a daughter-in-law of Alice Williams GRIFFITH, who died in 1989 at age 102. She was the daughter of J. Newton WILLIAMS and Elizabeth RESSLER, who married in Gallatin County, KY in 1868. We suspect that Elizabeth was the daughter of Charley RISLER, who is buried next to Susan RISLER (1821-1828) in the Ghent, KY Cemetery. Perhaps Susan owned the book, and perhaps Susan was a Furnish. We have not been able to find a marriage record for Charley Risler to Susan _____. We find very little about Rislers or Resslers in the Gallatin - Carroll County area, but there are Resslers to be found in Pennsylvania. One of the poems in the book was signed by Priscilla HAMILTON, Pine Creek, Aug 28 1840. I found on the LDS site a Priscilla Hamilton, born May 21 1807 in Lycoming County, PA, daughter of Robert HAMILTON and Anna JACKSON. One notion is that Susan came from Lycoming County, or was visiting relatives there, or perhaps she was sent to school there. Would like any comments. Does anyone know of schools for young ladies in the county around 1840? Bill Davis [email protected] **************************************************************** * * * Fax (978)334-7850 * P.O.
