While my MILLER's don't seem to be your MILLER's, mine were in Lycoming, Mt. Carmel, from about 1910 thru the early 1920's. Most of them then moved or moved back to Williamsport, where they seem to have stayed till WW2 disrupted them. When were your relatives in Lycoming county? There are alot of old pictures and valuable information. This book is book one and then another book was written by Nancy E. Baumgartner called Cogan House Township The 1900s. Hope this helps.
Studying the HAKES family in the very small community of Barbours Corner / Plunkett Creek, right next door to the 3 Hakes Brothers, Alpheasse (Alfred), Reuben Jr., and Harlo Perry, are two families....a John Campbell family, and a Samuel Miller family. Both their wives match first and middle initial names of the Hakes sisters, as well as correct ages. Anyone researching this Campbell or Miller? Also Alphease mother-in-law Emeline Maley is living with them...Would like to verify that this indeed makes Alphease wife Viola, a Maley? Anyone researhing? 1920 Lycoming Census, Plunkett Creek, PA Alphease Hakes name is written as Alfred B. Finisher on furniture Mother-in-law Emmeline Maley living with them, age 67 On this 1920 Census right next door to Alphease are two households, #60 & 61with a Mary M. and John Campbell and a Loretta E. & and Samuel E. Miller, Mary M. & Loretta E. are the exact ages of the Hakes sisters of Alphease. Need to verify!
Hi John, i'm confused is this your wife family also? Yes please do send the picture. I wrote to my cousin Nan to see if this is her family and to see if see knows more. grace
Hi Eldred, My Meyer family lived in Cogan House (I believe some still do). I just started working on this family so I don't have too much information. I understand another person already did the family but has since died. Abraham had Rebecca, Martin, Edward, Clara, Russell, William, Elizabeth, Mary, Charles and Harriette (1858 thru1881). He was originally from Philadelphia. He was Town Clerk for quite a few years and I believe his father Martin at one time owned a sawmill. Grace
Grace, ....the HAKES are my wife's family...but distantly related....In the following household I believe is the George you mentioned, and his grandfather R. Jerry (Reuben Jeremiah) is also my wife's ggg grandfather through a daughter named Emma Hakes Barber who lived in Bradford Co. most of her life. I have much more I can send you, the picture was passed down in my wifes side. John 1900 Census, ED 59, Plunkett Creek Township, HH 173, R.Jerry (Reuben Jeremiah) is living with son Reuben and family. Name is spelled "HICKS" 3. REUBEN JEREMIAH7 HAKES (REUBEN JEREMIAH6, GEORGE5, SOLOMON4, GEORGE3, JONATHAN2, SOLOMON1) was born February 12, 1865. He married MAGGIE Abt. 1892. Children of REUBEN HAKES and MAGGIE are: i. HARRY8 HAKES. ii. ELLA HAKES, b. August 1895. iii. GEORGE HAKES, b. May 1897. iv. MALY HAKES, b. Abt. 1901. v. MYRTLE HAKES, b. Abt. 1903. vi. ELSIE HAKES, b. Abt. 1906.
Grace, please send me your email, as I can't send the photo through the list! John
Keep in mind, if you are thinking about bidding on e-bay for the "Muncy Valley Lifeline" book, that you can purchase this book at the Lycoming Co. Historical Museum for about $10 -- maybe slightly more.
I am also researching the Miller family. My Millers came from Lycoming Co. and then went on to Lawrence Co.. My ggrandfather, Cornelius Miller came from Lycoming Co. and my grandfather his son lDavid was born in Lawrence Co. Then they all moved on to Iowa where Cornelius and his family and David and his family are all buried. If anyone is working on these lines let me know. Thanks. Marge

Margie, Do you know anything of Rosetta Corle of Schuykill county? The 1910 Miracode census lists her as being born in PA about 1870 but I've been unable to find her. Thanks, Ashley margie wrote: > Kathryn, > Who are the Corles you have in Montgomery. Grace, You mentioned the name of George Hakes married Margaret Meyer and that opened up a topic for me. My gr. gr grandfather was George Jarvis Eldred, and every so often I find so names that are connected together, such as Jarvis, William, George, and of course, Eldred and a few others. These names become first, middle, and last names, so I imagine there is a connection somewhere. I have Williard S. MEYER, born in 1859, died Nov. 28, 1930 at his home in Lamar. He was born on the MEYER farm outside of Lamar. He married Martha Jane (Jeanie) ELDRED MEYER on Dec. 9, 1880, at her home. She was born August 5, 1858 near Mackeyville, PA She was the daughter of Honorable George J. and Margaret PORTER ELDRED. The Honorable George ELDRED served as a Representative in Harrisburg twice, at different times. Margaret PORTER ELDRED was the grand-daughter of Samuel PORTER, a Revolutionary War Veteran. Martha Jane MEYER died at her home in Lamar on July 4, 1949. Willard brought his father's small farm in Clintondale in 1850 from his mother and two half-sisters, Mary (MEYER) Dotterer and Alice MEYER. I am searching for this line of MEYER, ELDRED, and PORTER. Thanks, Eldred
Well found some new info on the 1900 and 1910 Census! YEAH!! Will take longer on the 1880 Census, and I will probably go through the entire county before I'm done....and Grace, the birth month, of this George looks probably like yours? It's interesting the HAKES are documented for 100 years prior and are in a book, just this particular line hadn't been taken further....it's interesting, the Hakes name up there in Barbour's Corner, was spelled HAIKS, and HICKS!....the challenge of genealogy....here's what I found new, in case someone can add to the married names, or correct anything, some of it was hard to read... 1. REUBEN JEREMIAH6 HAKES (GEORGE5, SOLOMON4, GEORGE3, JONATHAN2, SOLOMON1) was born January 12, 1841 in Bradford Co. PA. He married (1) LOUISE HINSON May 12, 1859. He married (2) SARAH E. CHAPMAN April 13, 1864. : Justice of the Peace, Resident of Barbour's Mills, Lycoming Co. PA, farmer. 1900 Census, ED 59, Plunkett Creek Township, HH 173, R.Jerry (Reuben Jeremiah) is living with son Reuben and family. Name is spelled "HICKS" 3. REUBEN JEREMIAH7 HAKES (REUBEN JEREMIAH6, GEORGE5, SOLOMON4, GEORGE3, JONATHAN2, SOLOMON1) was born February 12, 1865. He married MAGGIE Abt. 1892. Children of REUBEN HAKES and MAGGIE are: i. HARRY8 HAKES. ii. ELLA HAKES, b. August 1895. iii. GEORGE HAKES, b. May 1897. iv. MALY HAKES, b. Abt. 1901. v. MYRTLE HAKES, b. Abt. 1903. vi. ELSIE HAKES, b. Abt. 1906. vii. WALTER HAKES, b. Abt. 1908. 4. ALPHEASE BEEBE7 HAKES (REUBEN JEREMIAH6, GEORGE5, SOLOMON4, GEORGE3, JONATHAN2, SOLOMON1) was born May 23, 1881. He married VIOLA. She was born Abt. 1887 in PA. Notes for ALPHEASE BEEBE HAKES: 1910 Lycoming Census, Plunkett Creek. Children of ALPHEASE HAKES and VIOLA are: i. HOWARD8 HAKES, b. Abt. 1903. ii. ARTHUR HAKES, b. Abt. 1904. iii. FRANCES HAKES, b. Abt. 1906. iv. GARLEN HAKES, b. Abt. 1909.
