    3. David, Thank you for all the information you have looked up! Here is the story: The John Hannis you found is NOT mine! We thought so for years! Unfortunately it didn't work out. My John Hannis was murdered by a neighbor as they were fighting over a fence! I have the newspaper clipping - it was in 1847 - and he was killed by a Croop (haven't figured if he is realated to me yet). In the newspaper article it stated that his wife had died the winter before. So I figure that she may have died in childbirth or shortly after the last child was born (Susan). We had always heard that John Hannis died in a fight over a horse or a fence! I put a notice on here a few years back. A year went by and suddenly I got an e-mail from someone named "Pat" who sent me the newspaper article. Interestingly, it only took a couple of months for the trial to be over and Mr. Croop got 7 years! I could never find Adam either - he went to live with an uncle I think but don't know for sure. James Polk and Elizabeth went with their grandmother and Susan went with one of her mother's sister. I'll be happy to send you any and all information about my John Hannis if you think you would like it. Just let me know.
