>From Wilkes Barre Record, Monday, 17 Mar 1891, Page 8 Matthew W. Ellis, an old and experienced miner, was killed instantly by a fall of rock at the Black Diamond mine yesterday afternoon at 3:30 oclock. He had fire a shot and returned to the face of the changer and touched a huge piece of rock with the end of his drill, when in an instant it fell, pinioning the unfortunate victim to the bottom. Mr. Ellis had been working in this same mine for many years and was always regarded as one of the best miners in this region. In consequence he was always awarded good positions. He was 44 years old and was born at Clydach, South Wales. A wife, a son Fred, who was working with him at the time of his death, and a large family of little ones are left to mourn his demise. Funeral services will be held at the house on Thursday, with interment at Tamaqua. He was one of best citizen of Luzerne Borough.
