According to a will, my relative, William MOORE (d. 1839), had a son Stephen MOORE, Junior. Was Stephen most likely named for William's father? Why do they use "Junior" when its not father and son? Michelle
It wasn't very common but it happened.? Sometimes it was used (outside the family) to differentiate between older and younger men of the same name, not necessarily related. It's hard to say if he was named for a grandpa or uncle.? Generally, the first son was named for the paternal grandpa, the second for the maternal grandpa and the 3rd for the dad. I have a similar situation with the use of "2nd."? My ancestor named his name-son Junior, then named his other sons after his brothers, including the "2nd."?
