    1. [PALUZERN] Delayed birth certificates
    2. Hello: Don't forget to explore the "Family History Library Catalog at the following (lengthy) URL to see what information is available for Luzerne County: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.a sp?display=localitydetails&subject=187908&subject_disp=Pennsylvania,_L uzerne&columns=*,180,0 Included on this Luzerne County list under "Vital Records" is the "Delayed register of births, filed 1941-1973". What is a delayed birth certificate? Many times a birth certificate wasn't issued for a person born around the turn of the century. In order to obtain a "delayed" birth certificate (issued years following the birth), they had to submit proof. This proof might include letters from physicians, relatives, life insurance policies, etc. My mother-in-law had to do obtain a delayed birth certificate when she retired and went to apply for social security benefits. At age 60 years plus, many of the "witnesses" were gone and it was a frustrating task for her to accomplish. These delayed birth records, however, contain some good information. Don't forget to consider them. Ruth Ann
