In 1888, the post office changed the name of the town to Avoca. It is about 4 miles NE of Pittston. Newspapers of that day which printed news items relevant to the community of Pleasant Valley (an indication of readership) included Scranton and Wilkes-Barre in addition to Pittston. They also had their own weekly paper, of which a few copies exist at the Lackawanna Historical Society from the 1890's. -----Original Message----- From: MCasey863@aol.com <MCasey863@aol.com> To: PALUZERN-L@rootsweb.com <PALUZERN-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, March 08, 2001 2:09 PM Subject: [PALUZERN] Pleasant Valley whereabouts >Dear Friends, > >Can someone tell me where Pleasant Valley is in relation to Pittston?
