My sister has offered to help me look up our great-great grandfather Joseph Gordon in the Mine Inspector's fatality reports, since she now lives near the PA state archives. Unfortunately, after whittling the date range down of when the fatality might have occured, I'm still left with 1903-1910, so she's got a lot of volumes to look through. It would help us narrow down the search if we knew what mines or even what mine districts are the most likely candidates. So my questions for the list are: If someone was known to have lived in Duryea at that time, what are the most likely mines that they would have worked in? What mine districts (as defined for mine inspector's reports) would these mines be in? Is there a mine inspectors district map available somewhere? Regarding the same ancestor, but on another topic: What catholic churches in Duryea would you expect an Irish family to attend? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Those are some excellent questions. I did a search and here is a page that may help you get on your way. I have been working on this topic myself and need information on the West End Coal Co. Here is a start: http://www.google.com/search?q=anthracite+mines&btnG=Google+Search Best Wishes,Becca
