I will be going to Ireland in the next couple weeks to do some genealogy research. I know that my ancestors came from County Mayo and arrived in Carbondale PA 6/23/1846 but I don't know where in Ireland they were from nor do I know what port they entered the States. I've already done research locally in the Scranton/ Carbondale area and I've also tried the National Archieves - both unfortunately have been of little help. I've also requested an initial record search from the North Mayo Research Center - again with little success. Does anyone have any suggestions where to start in County Mayo (what resources might be available at the North Mayo Heritage Center, strategies for locating ship records leaving Ireland, common ports of departure in 1846 for Mayo residents, common ports for entry in the USA in 1846, etc) thanks in advance Jamie Dougher Archbald, PA
