Mar. 22, 1945 Martin Ulshafer, of Derringer, who celebrated his 93rd birthday anniversary on St. Patrick's Day, was guest of honor at a dinner given by his daughter, Mrs. Ida Kelly. Mr. Ulshafer is the only surviving member of Solomon Ulshafer's family of eight children. Born in the valley between Nuremberg and Sheppton, Mr. Ulshafer was engaged in farming and lumbering, and was one of the first employees of Coxe Brothers and Co., when they opened at Derringer. He hauled the first log to the sawmill when they began to build houses, and worked as stable boss for the Coxe Co. until 1938 when he retired. When his home burned in 1901, he wife lost her life saving their two youngest boys. They had sixteen children, nine of whom are living; 20 grandchildren in the service, and five great grandchildren. He also had two sons in World War I.
