Mar. 22, 1945 Martin Ulshafer, of Derringer, who celebrated his 93rd birthday anniversary on St. Patrick's Day, was guest of honor at a dinner given by his daughter, Mrs. Ida Kelly. Mr. Ulshafer is the only surviving member of Solomon Ulshafer's family of eight children. Born in the valley between Nuremberg and Sheppton, Mr. Ulshafer was engaged in farming and lumbering, and was one of the first employees of Coxe Brothers and Co., when they opened at Derringer. He hauled the first log to the sawmill when they began to build houses, and worked as stable boss for the Coxe Co. until 1938 when he retired. When his home burned in 1901, he wife lost her life saving their two youngest boys. They had sixteen children, nine of whom are living; 20 grandchildren in the service, and five great grandchildren. He also had two sons in World War I. Attending the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Clair Ulshafer, Beatrice Ulshafer, Thomas Williams, Mrs. Catherine Ulshafer, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Felter, Elaine and Jackie Felter, Mrs. Mary Ulshafer, Robert, Doris, Laraine, Lois, Rita Emelie, Carolyn and Alice Ulshafer, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Rhoads, Warren, Jr., Clyde and Donald, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Sachs, Ruth, Daniel, Harold and Jean Sachs, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Foose, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Berger, Henry Berger, Arthur Houser, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Samler, Emma Russell and Sandra Samler, Florence Houser, Mrs. Floyd McGlynn, Richard and Sheila McGlynn.
