Regarding the queries on St. Nicholas Church records: A number of years ago my husband and I were in Wilkes-Barre inquiring about some of my ancestors who had been members of St. Nicholas. They had the original books of baptisms and marriages beginning in 1856 and deaths beginning in 1911 which they let us look at under supervision. However, we had to wait for the priest to give permission to do this. They would not subject the books to a copy machine but did let us take photographs ot the entries. Several years later I heard that they had found "an old grave digger's book" behind a file cabinet that had a few earlier burials in it. They said that occasionally the secretary would search the books when she had extra time for a small fee. I don't know about St. Mary's Cemetery. Perhaps, if you wrote to the church, they could help. I am interested if anyone knows of the extent of records both from The Church and from the cemetery and where they can be accessed. Bill Fehlinger-NJ >>
