Col. Ricketts during the Civil War did not fit into the regular army but outfitted his own regiment from the Luzerne Co. area with his own funds. After the War he was rewarded with half of North Mountain real estate. Though to Col. Ricketts made millions on logging off North Mountain, and he had one of the homes on Millionair Row in Williamsport, to his credit - he never allowed the "Glen" to be logged because of its beauty.
