According to 'The Horn Papers', page 592 of biographicl sketches; 'Basil Brown, one of the earliest settlers on the Monongahela River, emigrated from Virginia to Northwest Virginia in 1763, and in 1768 located at Brown's Ferry below the mouth of Dunkard Creek. He worked on the first boat for the George Rogers Clark expedition at Greensboro in 1778. He joined this expedition, but after four years of adventure he returned to Greensboro, and after two years there located in Luzern Township, Fayette County. In 1786, he was granted a pension of twelve pounds for disbilities caused by the wounds he received at St. Clair's defeat. His later life was spent between Greensboro and Brownsville, where he lived with his sisters. He died at Brownsville in 1837.' Is anyone researching this Basil Brown and his family? I have searched for my Silas Brown, who migrated to Ashtabula Co., OH ca 1827, for many years. Would appreciate any information on this Basil and his family. Ila Brown LaRue
