My grandmother, Amelia KARECKAS (Karakowska on the ship manifest) came from Suwalki with her cousin Petra (Petroline) Kareckas in April, 1898. She sailed from Hamburg to Boston, went briefly to Union City, Connecticut, and settled in Plymouth, Pa. In 1899, she married Ignatz KRISULEVICZ from Vilnius in St. Casimir's Church and had 4 children: Alphonse (born 1900, died 1940) Julius (died 1975) George (killed in mines in 1936) Anna (married Peter Butsavage, died 1980's) Ignatz was killed in a trolley car accident in 1911. Grandma then married Joseph BUDWITT (BUDWICK, BUDVETIS) from Kedainai in 1913, and had 3 more children: Aldona (1st husband: Albert Evanowski; 2nd husband: Joseph Ostrowski, died 1975) Joseph (married Seiko Tanaka, died 1980's) Mary (married Joseph Pucylowski, born 1918, died 1988) Grandma had two brothers who were also in America: Walter KARECKAS (miner; no record of him anywhere except the church and draft registration; never married; died in 1938) Peter KARECKAS(Kareski, Koreski, Koretski) -- married Eva STRAKALAITIS in 1916, had daughter Emily in 1917 (married Joe ROGERS); owned a beer garden near Bull Run; cannot locate death records. Eva STRAKALAITIS KARECKAS/KARESKI died in the flu epidemic in 1918. Her obit is listed under the name Mrs. Peter Kareski/Karetski. She is buried somewhere in Nanticoke (perhaps with her mother's family, maiden name ROMANOWSKI). Everyone except Joseph settled in Plymouth and/or Hanover township. (Elm St., Mechanics Alley, Vine St., Gould St. Have not been able to find any information on Petra Kareckas. Her name exists in an old prayer book I have dated Aug. 1910. I'd appreciate if anyone has any information on these people. Alis, NYC
