    3. I am researching the following two families who lived in Hazleton (most likely the Cranberry area) in the early 1900's - possibly even as early as the 1890's. The mothers in these families were sisters, Greek Catholics who immigrated from the village of Nizna Rybnica in eastern Slovakia. Their family name was GLIGANIC, variously spelled GLIGANICH, GLIGANICS, GLIGONIC, GLAGONICH, and so on. GALLO family: The parents' names were John and Helen. The family name may originally have been GALYO. The names of the children that are known so far are Margaret, Helen, Mary, Joseph, John, and George. It is known that Margaret was born in Cranberry in 1907. Her married name was Margaret KIMMEL, and she died in 1998 in Lehighton. CHURA family: The father's name was John. The names of the mother and children are unknown. There is a slight possibility that the family name might have been spelled CSURA or CZURA. In addition, I am researching a family named HARVILCAK (also spelled HARVILCHAK) who came to the United States from Slovakia in 1902. The parents' names were John and Elizabeth. Elizabeth's maiden name has been given as CIEBERY and SEABERRY. The children were John, Mary, George, and Michael. It seems that the Harvilcaks may have originally settled in the Hazleton/McAdoo area. By 1912, George had moved to Jerome. He married Susan PETRANIC (also spelled PETRANICH). George and Susan changed their family name to HARRIS shortly after they were married. They lived in Windber until their deaths in the 1970's. Any assistance you can give in obtaining more information about these families will be greatly appreciated. Marie Petranic Power jmpower@mindspring.com
