    3. Hi Karen, What information in particular are you looking for? I have a considerable amount of information on the Belles family. Neither my wife nor I are Belles descendants, but we both have connections to the Belles family. Brian mentioned the difference in Adam's date of birth between the church record and the tombstone record. I believe that Adam was born in 1790, not in 1789, for two reasons: 1. His baptismal record gives his birthdate as 12 November 1790 and that is the record which is closest to the date of the actual event. 2. A 12 November 1789 birth date would mean that he was born less than eight months after his brother Peter, which is highly unlikely. Larry mentioned an Adam Belles in Buck Township. That was Abram Belles and he does have a biography in Bradsby. Let me know what you are looking for and I will bet back to you. 1. Re: [PALUZERN] Hollywood village
    2. My gr. grandparents lived in Hollywood village in the 1890's. Hollywood was owned by a mining company. Can anyone tell me the name of the company that owned Hollywood? I have found the names of different mine companies in Luzerene co. but I haven't been able to confirm which one owned Hollywood. And does anyone know if there might be somewhere I can locate a list of people who lived there in the 1890's. The 1890 census is what I really need but it no longer exists. Thanks

    3. Hi, Although Adam Belles appears to have been a rare name in the late 1700s and early 1800s in the Wilkes-Barre area, it became a little more popular starting in the 1830s. I've found several in the census records from 1850 and 1860 - but they are mostly children. 1850 Census Newport Township, Luzerne County, Pa. + Philip Bellas, age 29, Farmer, no property recorded, born in Pennsylvania; Lucinda, age 24, born in Pennsylvania; Sarah E, age 4, born in Pennsylvania; William, age 3, born in Pennsylvania; Elijah, age 1, born in Pennsylvania; Adam, age 18, Laborer, born in Pennsylvania. + William Bellas, age 24, Boat Man, no property recorded, born in Pennsylvania; Mary, age 24, born in Pennsylvania; Adam, age 2, born in Pennsylvania; Levi, 9 months, born in Pennsylvania; Catharine Fanchila (sp?), age 28, born in Pennsylvania. 1860 Census Newport Township, Luzerne County, Pa. + Elizabeth Bellas, age 70, widow, real estate valued at $5,000, personal property valued at $500, born in Pennsylvania; Adam, age 25, laborer, born in Pennsylvania; George, age 30, laborer, born in Pennsylvania; Emeline, age 9, born in Pennsylvania; Jam Hannis, age 14, male, born in Pennsylvania; Elizabeth Hannis, age 17, born in Pennsylvania. Listed beside Philip Bellas, age 39, and near Joseph, age 34. + Joseph Bellas, age 34, laborer, personal property valued at $200, born in Pennsylvania; Eliz’th, age 29, born in Pennsylvania; Adam, age 8, born in Pennsylvania; Hezekiah, age 6, born in Pennsylvania; Mary, age 4, born in Pennsylvania; Eliz’th, age 3, born in Pennsylvania. Lived near Elizabeth, age 70, and Philip, age 39. Paradise Township, Monroe County, Pa. [of course this isn't really the Wilkes-Barre area, but it's the same overall family.] + Jacob B. Bellis, age 52, farm laborer, personal property valued at $250; born in Pennsylvania. His household also contained Hannah Bellis, age 50, domestic, born in Pennsylvania; Adam Bellis, age 20, day laborer, born in Pennsylvania; Lewis, age 18, domestic, born in Pennsylvania; Sarah, age 16, seamstress, born in Pennsylvania; Elizabeth, age 16, domestic, born in Pennsylvania; Hannah, age 14, born in Pennsylvania; Miner (?), age 12, born in Pennsylvania. + (?) Bellis, age 39, Farmer, real estate valued at $1,600(?), personal property valued at $300, born in Pennsylvania. His household also contained: Margaret, age 42, born in New Jersey (possibly scratched out); domestic, born in Pennsylvania; Adam, age 7, born in Pennsylvania; Margett, age 5, born in Pennsylvania; Emily, age 2, born in Pennsylvania; Mary, age 80, born in Pennsylvania. (HeritageQuest identifies this man as Sabil but the name appears to be something else.) 3. Hi Karen, This is just a quick note with a bit of info on Adam Belles. Unfortunately, I don't have much on him. I have a lot of Belles/Bellesfeldt info on my Web site at: http://mysite.verizon.net/bowers.clan/id62.html I've been collecting information on the Luzerne County Belleses for years. I'm pretty certain that there was only one Adam in the area before the mid-1800s. However, the records seem to be a bit contradictory on his year of birth. The cemetery record indicates one year but the most likely birth record indicates another. However, the overall context of the information seems to indicate that these all refer to the same person. Here's what I've found so far: “The Hamilton Township Union Church Record,s Hamilton Township, Northampton County, (Now Monroe),” translated by the Rev. A.S. Leiby. + Cornelius and Margaretha Bellesfeld, son Joh. Adam, born Nov. 12, 1790, baptized Jan. 1, 1791. Newport Cemetery, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. USGenWeb Archives. + Adam Belles, d. 22 Sept. 1843, aged 53 yrs 10 mos. [born November 1789] + Elizabeth Belles, wife of Adam, d. 10 June 1874, aged 86 yrs [born about 1788] Lurzerne County, Pa., deed books + Peter Belles and Adam Belles buy land in Newport Township, Feb. 5, 1806 – Lurzerne County, Pa., Deed Book 12, page 489. + Cornelius Bellesfelt sells land in Newport Township to Adam Bellesfelt Aug. 19, 1824. Cornelius’ wife in Margaret – Lurzerne County, Pa., Deed Book 20, page 335. + Cornelius Belles and Adam Belles sell 200 acres of land in Newport Township, May 31, 1837 – Lurzerne County, Pa., Deed Book 33, page 121. “History of Luzerne, Lackawana and Wyoming Counties, Pa,” by W.W. Munsell & Co., 1880, pages 326-327. + Succession of Township Officers of Newport Township, Luzerne County, Pa. Supervisors – Adam Belles, 1828, 1831. If you have any further information on the family, I'd love to know. I'm still trying to find my own link back to the Luzerne County Belleses. 3. A lot of the local libraries now have the "Heritage Crest" census search on line on their web sites. You must go to your library and get a library card with a number they will assign to you. You then go to the your Library web site on line. Click on the Heritage Crest Search, type in your number and you can search the Census from your computer at home.
