Looking for any info on these families. Roman or Petrich / Petric. they lived in the Hazleton area and were from Slovakia / Hungary. I am not getting anywhere in finding relatives of my gr. grandparents Peter Roman and Annie Petrich. Annie had these siblings: John, Andrew, Adam, Susanna and Mary. Peter had a brother John. Family story has it that one of the John's went to the Alaskan gold fields and was never heard from again. Debbie

Anyone out there researching John Capece of Freeland, Luzerne Cty, PA. I came across a newspaper article in a 1919 Wilkes-Barre newspaper which tells about an automobile accident that John Capece and his wife were in. Both were killed. Anyone need this info?
If anyone ever comes across an old album with the names Roman,Petrich,Petric or Benko I would be very interested. My gr. grandparents lived in Hazleton in the late 1880's until around 1940. After their deaths their oldest daughter got rid of everything including the photo albums. Debbie
Ive rescued an old photograph album which appears to have belonged to the TAYLOR Family of Bloomingdale, Pennsylvania. I am having a difficult time determining which Bloomingdale, PA the TAYLOR Family lived in as there appear to be three in Pennsylvania. A majority of the photographs in the album are unidentified; however, there are three letters in the front of the album all addressed to Miss M. Gertrude TAYLOR at Bloomingdale, PA. A photograph in the back of the album is addressed To Minerva suggesting that the M may be from Minerva, though it is just a guess. I did find some information regarding Frank GREENWOOD who I believe appears in the album. Ive included census information regarding the GREENWOOD Family below. Items in the album include: TAYLOR Family Photograph Album Unidentified Group Photograph, W. E. Griswold Studio in New York City, 1890s, infants to 70s, I think some of the people included later are also in this photograph Letter to Miss M. Try this Website by Walt Sullivan, might give you some clues, The Irish in Scranton http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SHOW&db=waltonsullivan&rec no=29919
My Scanlon relatives were in Scranton, PA where Edward got his naturalization in 1874, he was a coal miner. Edward & Mary Quin were next in Virden, Illinois in 1880. On census records for 1880/1900 etc. the number of children were different. At one point she states 12 children born & 7 living. I've found all the children in Illinois 2 were born in Pennsylvania. I think Mary may have had children & they may have died in PA sometime between 1874 & 1878. My Scanlon's were Irish, arrived from Glasgow to New York in 1873. First 2 son's were born in Scotland & next 2 were born in PA 1874 & again in 1878 The rest of children born in Illinois. I have no idea of where in Scranton they lived & worked. I do know they were very good Catholics so if children were born/died they may be church information. Could someone give me some idea of what church/churches that were around in/near Scranton where irish coal miner may have attended. Also is there any civil records & where might I look for them?. Thanks, Gwen

Thanks, Bill, for the link to lists of Pennsylvannia Churches. However, I could not find any reference to a "Free Presbyterian Church". One of my family was Thomas AITKEN, Blacksmith, born 1844, Walston, Lanarkshire, Scotland who married Margaret BERTRAM, born 1846, Dolphinton, Lanarkshire, Scotland and settled in West Pittston, PA. and may have moved to Dickson City after 1900. In searching the records of the First United Presbyterian Church (formerly First Presbyterian Church) West Pittston, I discovered the name of Thomas Aitken in the Register of Elders. He was installed on 7 February 1892. Further in the church records are the names of Thomas Aitken and Mrs. Margaret Aitken (wife of Thomas) in the Register of Communicants. Both have 14 April 1889 as their "Date of Admission", both were received by "Certificate", both were "Dismissed" on 23 September 1901, and both went to "Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland", whereabouts not stated. The pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church between 1 January 1898 and 1 December 1908 was William R. Harshaw. Does anyone know of a Free Presbyterian Church in West Pittston or nearby, and whether records are available? Thanks, John Johnston New Zealand
Walls / Estates and Marriages are now in the courthouse annex, which is on the corner of Pennsylvania and Market Sts., across Market from Genetti's. Much of the early material is available via LDS and also at the PA State Archive in Harrisburg where you can view the microfilms on a Saturday.; it is a much shorter trip there from Hanover than all the way to Wilkes-Barre. However not much material after the very early 1900's unless you visit Wilkes-Barre. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Scott John (IT)" <jscott@HanoverDirect.com> To: <paluzern-l@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 25, 2007 4:40 PM Subject: [PALUZERN] County records : If i was visit the county office in Luzerne Co. - where would i go to : view the records - wills/land/adms etc ? : : JOHN BRADFORD SCOTT : Sr. Applications Programmer Analyst : Hanover Direct, Inc. : Hanover, Pa. : Voice: 717-633-3119 : Fax: 717-633-3101 : : : : : ------------------------------- : To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PALUZERN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message :
