1. [PALUZERN] Looking for obit
    2. Hello all - I am going to try to find an obit for my ancestor. My problem is that I only have the year of death - not month/day. Perhaps someone can suggest how I could find the month/day - her name is MARY ELLEN PRICE (maiden name Liveringhouse). Her husband was William Penn Price - he died in 1898. According to info online they both died in Glen Lyon, Luzerne, PA. Could someone tell me which township in Luzerne that Glen Lyon would be in so maybe I can located the family in the 1900 census? Thank you for any help or suggestions - Ahlive

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone. 3. Hello Ed, If you mean by hard copies, the original newspapers, I don't believe they exist now. Once microfilming was done, the originals were destroyed. Having been printed on cheap paper, they were not meant to survive and would probably have fallen to dust by now anyway. The Hazleton newspaper being printed in JAN 1887 was the Daily Sentinel. It is available on microfilm in at least two locations I that I know: the Hazleton Public Library and the Luzerne Co. Historical Society in Wilkes-Barre. There was also a mining journal for the Hazleton area called The Colliery Engineer, which can be found op microfilm at the Hazleton library. The holdings are short, covering only 2 JAN 1886 to AUG 1887. I don't know where else any of these may be available, but it's about time that Ancestry adds some of the newspapers of NE Pennsylvania to their database. Best wishes, Doug Nicol Norman D. 3. The Hazelton library does have the newspaper on film. Perhaps if you call or write they would be willing to make a copy and send it since you have the date. I did a look-up several years ago and found the ref dept. very helpful. You might also try the Historical Society. I believe they have a web site but don't have the address at hand. 1. Re: [PALUZERN] Obit from Feb 21, 1935 in Hazleton Standard-Sentinel Newspaper
    2. Norman D. Nicol
    3. Hello Rich, There is a large gap in available microfilms of the various Hazleton newspapers from 1 JUL 1908 until 1 JAN 1935. Not even the newspaper office has copies from those years. However, since you are looking for an obituary for 21 FEB 1935, you are probably in luck. You don't say whether the date you give is that of death or of the actual obit, but the library should be able to provide a copy. Make sure that you ask for the obituary and not just the brief death notice. There is a published set of indexes for the earlier versions of the newspaper in four volumes by Norm Drasher and available through Clossen Press. Not only are obituaries indexed, but births, marriages, naturalizations and just about any other event of genealogical value. The dates covered are from JUL 1889 through DEC 1902. Hope this helps, Doug Nicol Norman D. Nicol, Ph.D. Professional Genealogist/Family Historian Specializing in NE Pennsylvania, England, esp. Cornwall, and Scotland

    3. Yesterday I received copies in the mail of the above record. Included with this was a copy of his Declaration of Intent filed in Carbondale. It sates Robert was born on or about <blank> in 1843 and thst he emigrated in August of 1845. At the bottom of this record is a statement signed by the Clerk for Carbondale that "the above is a true copy of a Declaration filed in the Mayor's Court for the city of Carbondale", signed and dated 6 Oct 1860. This does not appear to be my Robert. However, in attempting to locate this Robert, I have been usuccessful in locating him in Census records for 1850 or 1860 in Luzerne. Does anyone know to what family this Robert belongs? Jon Gearhart Des Moines, IA

    3. Looking for info on Edward and Jane Mills who was in Highland in the 1880's. They had 2 children, John and Edward In 1900, she has added William, Susan, Hattie and Sarah. Edward had to die after 1890 and before 1900. Sarah was 11 yrs on 1900 census. Jane was 72 yrs on the 1930 census, and states she was Naturalized in 1865. At this time she was only about 7 yrs. and living with family in North Fayette Twp. in Allegheny. Any help that could lead me to a death record, that would tell me who her parents were would be greatly appreciated. A death certificate, copy would be fine, and I will pay cost if it is the right parents. Thanks for any help Patsy
