Hi - What are Alices' parents names? There are 2 listed born in 1894 in PA and a few born in PA in 1895. None in the town you mentioned but they could have moved from there. Bob, yes I did and can't find her there as a child. I am hoping someone has Barrett's from Jermyn Pa. Cindi, This family is very interesting. I did a search for them in 1910 and they are nowhere to be found, at least not with the names given. No Valisk or Vaja, so it does intrigue me. The name actually looks like it is a Majewski. I am hoping against hope, that my family is one of the ones that are really hard to read like this one. I am not going to rule this family out, it is possible that the census taker made mistakes. thanks again. Good Evening List Members, I am searching for the family of Mary Gyzdick, she would be my GGGrandmother. She was born 25 Nov 1863 in Czech and immigrated to the US with her brother John in 1882 per her obituary. They settled in the Hazelton area of Luzerne county, PA. I have obtained her obituary, news clippings and her death cert. All have different spellings for her maiden name in everything. Even her children's birth records and death records have her maiden name spelled differently. In 1886, she married a John Micklos, born 20 Jun 1861, also of Czech. It states that they were married in the Hazelton area, but I am not sure of what church. In 1889, they moved to Minnesota and settled there. Both passed away in Jackson county, Minnesota. I have looked under all the names that were on the documents that I have received. I have checked under the 1880 census, it is aggravating that the 1890's have been destroyed. 20 years is a HUGE window for some. I cannot find anything in the PA databases that lead me to the correct spelling of this person's surname. I am looking for any help on the correct spelling of the last name for this individual. I know her brother's name was John and her father's name was John. I would also like to know if there are any catholic churches in the Hazelton area that would have been active in the late 1800's. I do believe they were of the catholic faith. Thank you in advance for all your help Lori L Hoper Kingsland, Georgia, USA Daughter to Patricia A Aden Daughter to Cliffored F Vacura Son to Mary Anna Micklos Daughter to Mary Gyzdick --------------------------------- Never miss an email again! I don't know. That is one reason I am trying to find them in 1900. In 1910 they are living with the son, Alex and his family, so the husband is already gone. Carol, Regarding your Perkosky search: check out the "Maski" (per ancestry.com index; the surname is longer) family in Freeland, Luzerne County on the 1900 census. William, born April 1872 Rose, born Jan 1872 Valisk, born Dec 1885 Vaja, born June 1896 Rose, born April 1899 There is also a Frank under the same last name, born Jan 1865, who is listed as a son(?!). This isn't the only mistake. Both Frank & Valisk are marked as born in PA, with immigration years filled in but crossed out. Rose & William are listed as married 6 years. She had 10 children born, with 3 living. Frank is marked as being married for 7 years. William immigrated in 1890 (not naturalized). Rose came in 1892 (same year is marked for son Valisk, then crossed out). I find the similarities between your family & this one intriguing and wonder if it could be them. If all else fails, you have the option in Heritage Quest Advanced to search Pennsylvania Census by year and then for the country of birth and age without a name. I saw Poland, Austria, etc. (Pol) Hope that helps. Shirley ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone.
