I am new to searching in Hazleton for my Bugel ancestors. I am trying to locate military records for George and John Bugel. Hi Delores, You probably saw the posting indicating the directories available at the Hazleton library for 1900-1910 are: 1900-01, 1901-2, 1904, 1909 I couldn't find an email address for the library, so I called tthem. 570-454-2961. Their website is at: http://www.hazletonlibrary.org/info/info.html The woman I spoke with seemed willing to check the directories for 1 name and tell me if it was listed. But she wasn't willing to record any details, etc. Plus, she asked me to give her a few day and to call back and she would tell me if she found the name I'm looking for (I'm supposed to call her today in fact, between 1-5). I would have liked a little more, but apparently their resources are very limited, so I appreciate that the was willing to give it a quick look. Best of luck, Rich DELORES <dcj@dmv.com> wrote: I am new to searching in Hazleton for my Bugel ancestors. I am trying to locate military records for George and John Bugel. Hello Rich, I've worked with those directories at the Hazleton Library a lot. The years they have between 1900 and 1910 are: 1900-01, 1901-2, 1904, 1909 That's it. Good luck with your research, Doug Nicol Norman D. Nicol, Ph.D. Professional Genealogist/Family Historian Specializing in NE Pennsylvania, England, esp. Cornwall, and Scotland
Hi, I live in Columbus, OH and I'm trying to confirm an ancestor (Lovina Kaffenberger/Kauffenberger/Koffenberger) lived in Hazleton between census years 1900 and 1910. (I've already checked the 1900 and 1910 US census records for Luzerne.) I looked at the online catalog at the Hazleton library website for City Directories. It lists that it has Hazleton City Directories, but doesn't say what years. 1) Does anyone know what directories they have for 1900-1910? 2) Or would another library in Luzerne County have Hazleton City Directories? 3) What is the email for the Hazleton library? It's not posted on their website. Thanks for any help or suggetions, Rich --------------------------------- Sucker-punch spam with award-winning protection. Try the free Yahoo! Mail Beta.

Hi, This list helped me find a couple obituaries previously and am hoping I can get help with one more name. I lost the information regarding the source (web address) where the previous obits were found, so I'm hoping this list can either tell me where Hazleton obits are found online, or can send me the text for the obit for William Kaffenberger/Kauffenberger. His death was on Jan 16, 1913 and the obit would have appeared in the Hazleton paper. Thanks for any help, Rich --------------------------------- Don't pick lemons. This came from another list to which I subscribe. The following was released to the press on 27 March 2007: FamilySearch News Release 27 March 2007 One Million Historical Names from Canada Go Online Nova Scotia Releases Early Birth, Marriage, and Death Records SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH-Early vital records of Nova Scotia, Canada, are viewable over the Internet for the first time and for free, thanks to a joint project by the Genealogical Society of Utah, FamilySearch, and the Nova Scotia Archives and Records Management (NSARM). The records include one million names found in birth records from 1864 to 1877, marriages from 1864 to 1930, and death records from 1864 to 1877 and 1908 to 1955. Users can search the database at www.novascotiagenealogy,com Nova Scotia is the first province in Canada to digitize all of its historical vital statistics and make them available online. "This project provides key information to researchers on their ancestors," said Genealogical Society of Utah regional manager Alain Allard. "It involves the vital records-births, marriages, and deaths-which are a key record set to find, identify, and link ancestors into family units." The Genealogical Society of Utah (GSU) first microfilmed most of Nova Scotia's vital records back in the 1980s. In 2005, GSU used FamilySearch Scanning to convert those microfilms to digital images, while at the same time capturing additional vital records with a specially designed digital camera. Volunteers for the Nova Scotia Archives then used the images to create the searchable electronic index, which was completed in 2006. Anyone can now search names in the index and view a high quality digital copy of the original image online for free at NSARM's Web site, www.novascotiagenea logy.com. In the near future, the index and images will also be available on FamilySearch. org. Researchers who want to obtain an official copy of a record can do so online through the Nova Scotia Archives. The cost will be CAN$9.95 for an electronic file and CAN$19.95, plus shipping and taxes, for paper copies. Nova Scotia Provincial Archivist, W. Brian Speirs, said the cooperation of GSU was crucial to this important project. "Without the Genealogical Society of Utah offering in the early days of the project to provide complimentary digitization of all the records as their contribution to the initiative, the proposed undertaking would have been dead in the water and gone nowhere," Speirs said. FamilySearch is the public channel of the Genealogical Society of Utah (GSU), a nonprofit organization sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. FamilySearch maintains the world's largest repository of genealogical resources accessed through FamilySearch. org, the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, and over 4,500 family history centers in 70 countries.
I will start off this query by stating up front that this family were miners, and that 2 of the sons left Pennsylvania and struck it rich in the Black Hills and in Idaho. They became miner owners in Idaho and at their deaths were listed as millionares, the old American success story. William R. LEONARD, b. May 1852 prob. Luzerne county, d. 25 Oct 1918, Denver, Colorado and his brother, James B. LEONARD, b. 1857 prob. Luzerne, d. 29 Jul 1910, Spokane, Washington were the sons of Barney LEONARD, b. 1825 Ireland, a miner, and his wife, Margaret RYAN Leonard, b. 1831 Pennsylvania, daughter of an Irish locktender, William RYAN and his wife, Margaret. Barney LEONARD had 7 children found on census and the youngest son, Frank LEONARD, b. Oct 1871, is listed as a miner in one of the mines owned by his brother in 1900 Idaho. The other children were: Michael, b. 1847, d. early, Ellen, b. 1850, Mary b. 1860, and Michael, b. 1865, d. early. This family lived in Hazel twp. in the 1860 and 1870 census. Does anyone have information regarding the other children? Or info on when/where Barney and his wife died? Another bit of interest. Margaret Ryan Leonard was the great grandaunt of Edward Patrick RYAN, b. 28 Feb 1883, Mauch Chunk, Carbon, Pennsylvania, d. 30 Aug 1965 Spokane, Washington. Ed RYAN went to New York University, graduated in law and became involved in mining law. He moved to Spokane, Washington in 1914 and became a Regent of the University of Washington in 1933-1934 and in 1942; he was President of that board, 1934-1935. He served n the board of directors of Metaline Mining and Leasing Co., and as a member of the board of directors of the Old National Bank in Spokane. Apparently he was a popular speaker on America from the clippings. Ed's parents? Michael J. Ryan, b. Nov 1847 Pennsylvania, d. 1903, Pennsylvania, and Julianne McElroy, b. Aug 1857 Ireland, d. 1938 Pennsylvania. Michael J. was a fireman for the railroad. Michael and Julianne had 12 chidlren, but only 3 lived to adulthood. My interest? Why would these millionaires be good friends with my grandfather in Spokane their entire lives? My grandfather, William J. Boyle, b. 15 May 1892 Hazleton, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, d. 30 Apr 1978, American Lake, Tacoma, Pierce, Washington. His father, also a William J. Boyle, was a day laborer in the mines. Both of my grandfather's parents were dead by the time he was 13, and he and his sister were shunted from family to family. My grandfather was a paper salesman, making a regular living for his family, but definitely not wealthy. So why are these folks such friends for so long when there is such an economic difference between them? Tantalizing...maybe they were family?

In some ship manifests I have seen a list at the end telling the number who died at sea but no names were given. Sometimes it mentions men, women and children. </HTML>
Family legend has it that when Emma Uttrodt of Pittston immigrated to America from Germany on the Steamship Eider (arriving 10/13/1884) one of her children, a baby girl, died and was buried at sea. There's no mention of the baby that we can find on the ship manifest. Does anyone know how we could verify that? I would think that the ship would have to have a record of it, but darned if I can find it. I would appreciate any suggestions. Bob, we just got info. from the Foundling Home where my father was born his mother in the records stated she was either born or from Jermyn Pa. The lawyer was not able to make copies of the record only to read it. It has taken us over 20 years to get this info. it took us 10 years to get his birth cert. and another ten years to get a copy of his adoption records. Then I found them on the 1920 census with my fathers family. So we are grateful what we have already.Thank you for your help. All have different spellings for her maiden name in everything. It states that they were married in the Hazelton area, but I am not sure of what church. In 1889, they moved to Minnesota and settled there. Both passed away in Jackson county, Minnesota. > > I have looked under all the names that were on the documents that I have received. I have checked under the 1880 census, it is aggravating that the 1890's have been destroyed. 20 years is a HUGE window for some. I cannot find anything in the PA databases that lead me to the correct spelling of this person's surname. > > I am looking for any help on the correct spelling of the last name for this individual. I know her brother's name was John and her father's name was John. I would also like to know if there are any catholic churches in the Hazelton area that would have been active in the late 1800's. I do believe they were of the catholic faith. > How did John spell his surname? Were either John of Mary naturalized? The marriage license dockets for Luzerne from 1885 are available though a FHC. bob gillis

It is and was in 1892 in Lackawanna County and is a village in probably Archbald township north of Scranton. What is your source for her birth date and place? If you search the 1900 census on ancestry you would look for the name Alice Barrett in PA. If you find a very large number you can then restrict the search to Lackawanna County. If no Alice Barrett in Lackawanna meets your criteria, you can then search in surrounding counties. bob gillis >----- Original Message ----- >From: "bob gillis" <robertgillis@verizon.net> > >>> >>> >>What specific information are you looking for? >> >>Have you looked at the 1900 census on Acnestry? >> >>bob gillis >> >> >> >>>------------------------------- >>>To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to >>>PALUZERN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the >>>quotes in the subject and the body of the message >>> >>> >>> >>> >>> >>> >> >>------------------------------- >>To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to >>PALUZERN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the >>quotes in the subject and the body of the message >> >> >> > > >------------------------------- >To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PALUZERN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > >
