    1. [PALUZERN] Memorial Day
    2. I was born in Parsons in 1927. I still remember the Memorial Day parades that we went to as youngsters in W-B. We then had a chance to see some Civil War Vets, Vets from the Spanish American War and of course WWI. World War I was important because of my uncle (Lawrence Fehlinger) who died in France with the 109th. The big moment was when the boat loaded with flowers was floated down the river and as it passed the bridge was exploded. You other "old timers" may still call this Decoration Day" Hopefully you are all displaying your flags. 1. [PALUZERN] St. Ann's Cemetery
    2. Norman D. Nicol
    3. Although I've posted this to the list a number of times, it bears repeating for the newer members. When you are seeking cemetery information for Luzerne Co., you should always check with the Northeast PA Genealogical Society at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~panepgs/ The Society's main project for more than ten years has been to microfilm cemetery, church and other records of the county. From the main page, scroll down and select "NEPAGS" then "Library Holdings." St. Ann's records are on the list. The phone number is given on the main page and the library is open on Thursdays (that is, today) from 10 AM until 2 PM. Some of the ladies will be there and may be able to answer your questions. If you live in the area, you may visit the library in Shavertown. Doug Nicol Norman D. Nicol, Ph.D. Professional Genealogist/Family Historian Specializing in NE Pennsylvania, England, esp. Cornwall, and Scotland

    2. Ed, are you looking for burial records. I was at the cemetery at St. Ann's about 2 years ago. The caretaker said there aren't any records for burials prior to the 1960's. Perhaps one of the historical societies has something. Can you tell me a little more about your Mulligan's? Thanks. 1. [PALUZERN] LARNED Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Rev. George M. LARNED which was taken at the Kellmer's Studio in Hazleton, Pennsylvania. The photograph appears to have been taken sometime in the 1880's with George likely in his 40's or 50's at the time. Based on limited research I believe that this may be a photograph of George Marvin or Marven LARNED b. 8 Mar 1834 in Wyoming Valley, PA to parents Theophilus LARNED and Elizabeth SMITH. George married Samantha BENSCOTER or BANSCOTER or VONSCOTEN on 5 July 1856 in Union or Kingston, PA and died 31 May 1905. The family is traced through census records as follows: 1860 census of Huntington Township, PA: George LARNED, age 26, a Farmer, born PA Samantha LARNED, age 24, born PA Frank N. LARNED, age 1, born PA Emma WAGNER, age 9, born PA 1870 census of Huntington Township, PA: George LANERD, age 36, a Clergyman, born PA Samantha LANERD, age 34, Keeping House, born PA Frank H. LANERD, age 11, a Student, born PA Clara E. LANERD, age 9, born PA Mercia J. LANERD, age 1, born PA Maggie DEDSON, age 19, a House Keeper, born PA I am hoping to locate someone from this LARNED Family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to its rightful place with family. If you are a member of this family, or if you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. [PALUZERN] Upper Lehigh Church
    2. Ancient One
    3. Hi Listers, My ancestors settled in Upper Lehigh in 1869 and lived there until about 1894. They were Irish Catholic. Was there a Catholic church in this little town? It seems that the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Eckley was one of the first churches in the area. Where would the records from that church be located. When was St. Ann's in Freeland established? Would the records be at that church? Any help in locating the church records and my Mulligan family would be great. Ed

    2. I have a family on my tree from Hollenback by the name of Grover and I have Henry Grover who married a relative of mine, Mary Shelly. On the 1880 census Henry and his family are listed and the family right before his are Daniel wife Sally and daughter, Martha and her husband, Paul G. Frey. I assume this must be the same family.
