    2. The Michael Shoemaker book mentions that in June of 1802, the heirs of a Jonathan Hascall gave a power of attorney to Isaac Baldwin. This would sound like he might be a lawyer. One of the heirs was Jonathan's dgt, Alice or Elsie who was married to Isaac Baldwin. This was in Tioga County. Just a thought. Eleanore

The Surveyor of Roads was probably a town official and appointed or elected by the town selectmen or town meeting. I think the transcription of Miner's History probably changed "Surveyor of Roads" into "a surveyor of Roads". He was responsible for checking the condition of the roads making sure they were kept in repair. A lawyer could have done that. Do you know in what month Yale held its commencement? Ot was your Isaac a member of the Class of 1774. Unless there wee two Isaac Baldwin's in the town at that time, I think he is your ancestor. bob gillis > > -----Original Message----- From: paluzern-bounces@rootsweb.com > [mailto:paluzern-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Marion Reeves > Sent: Saturday, July 14, 2007 4:36 PM To: paluzern@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [PALUZERN] Wyoming Massacre > > In Charles Miner's book History of Wyoming on page 158 he write that > 2nd March 1774 Isaac Baldwin was a surveyors of Highways in what was > formerly the town of Westmoreland but divided in into district , > > The index of the book also list Ebenezer Baldwin. , Gidion Baldwin, > Sgt.Thomas Baldwin, > > page 284 July 29 1780 here were twenty-nine on the roll, At Hanover, > to guard the mill, one lieutenant, one serjeant, and two privates, At > Kingston one serjeant and fourteen men; and two on the sick list. > Small detachments were frequently made for scouting parties the > utmost vigilance being indispensable. They are; Susan Rider (Reider) Wife of Hiram, lived in Shickshinny in the early 1900's, may have died about 1943. That is all I know about her. Phoebe Winters p.o was West Nanticoke in 1909. I haven't even found her in the 1910, 1920, or 1930 census. Mary (C or R) Bilby The daughter of Phoebe by apparently her 1st marriage. Married Alex Williams. Was in the Shickshinny area in 1909. (Alex died there in 1909.) Again I haven't been able to locate her in the 1910, 1920, or 1930 census. In 1910 she was a widow living with at least one daughter Ruth who was about 8. 2. I am interested in anyone who might have a connection with the SCHNEIDER/SNYDER families of Wilkes-Barre area. A great Aunt, Mary FEHLINGER married a Herbert SCHNEIDER/SNYDER possibly around 1880 + or -. She was born in Germany about 1862/3 and came here as an infant on Dec. 31- 1863. Her half sister, Louisa married into the GOERINGER family line. Bill Fehlinger-Mays Landing NJ wmfhlngr@aol.com ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
