Edwina, as soon as you mentioned the Catholic church in Pittston that was not responsive to your request the first that came to mind was St. John's. Sometime back someone gave me this email address for St. Johns St. John's Church (BENDIK@JUNO.COM) Perhaps if you are persistent they will respond to your request. Don't know if this would be of help - Three churches in Pittston at one address are St. Casimier's, St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph's. Address is R. 33 William Street, Pittston, PA 18640 Phone 570-654-0053. The "R" stands for rear of building. I have been working on the Lithuanian families - Raulinitius, Matasavage, Zingle. Although I haven't spent much time in the area the last couple of years, I still have memories. I was born in Parsons 80 years ago. Most of my relatives have "sort of disappeared". The much younger generations do not have the "relative connections" we had. It is very nice to see people from all over the US writing to the site, and, either asking questions or providing information. Almost every time I read something, it wakes my mind a little. Hopefully I will send something that someone else can appreciate. Keep up the good work. Debby kindly sent me information from the The Daily Times 1893-01-27 about the death of Mark Comer and also the Wilkes-Barre Times Leader 1908-04-15 about the death of Luke Comer. Please can someone tell me if there would likely to be obituaries in the newspapers from the families. The main reason for my Comer research is to try to ascertain which part of Ireland they came from. I know from the articles that they were buried at Sacred Heart Church in Plains, but I don't think this church was built in the in the 1860's when Mark Comer married Mary Cunaboy and Luke Comer married his second wife Honor Duffy. Does anyone know which Roman Catholic Church these couples were likely to have been married at? I would also like to ditto your comments Mary Ann. We went to the rectory at St. Mary's and the secretary was so helpful. She looked up the records and told us that the records we needed were in Pittston. However, the church in Pittston was having some bazaar and said they were too busy. I left the information I was looking for, but they never even sent an e-mail to let me know if the records existed. Since we don't get out to W-B very often, I was disappointed with their treatment. Hello Debby, Thank you very much for finding this wonderful information about Mark and Luke Comer. I appreciate it very much. There is just one query. In the information for Luke Comer, it states that he was survived by two daughters, Mr. Luke Corcoran and Miss Polly. Do you think this should be Mrs. Luke Corcoran? It wasn't very common but it happened.? Sometimes it was used (outside the family) to differentiate between older and younger men of the same name, not necessarily related. It's hard to say if he was named for a grandpa or uncle.? Generally, the first son was named for the paternal grandpa, the second for the maternal grandpa and the 3rd for the dad. I have a similar situation with the use of "2nd."? My ancestor named his name-son Junior, then named his other sons after his brothers, including the "2nd."? Good Morning Listers, Family Legend states that John ARMSTRONG, the father of Catherine Armstrong and her brother, John Armstrong, was also a survivor of the Wyoming Massacre. I have not been able to document anything for Catherine Armstrong prior to her marriage to Zephaniah SPACE in Wyoming Valley on 5 May 1811 so cannot prove the vality of this statement. Catherine Armstrong, according to census records, was born about 1793. There is a printed Space Family Genealogy that states Catherine and John Armstrong were raised by a family named HART in Clarion county, PA. This doesn't make sense to me as Zephaniah was living in Luzerne County until aroudn 1818/19 when land records show he purchased land in Clarion county at that time. Then there is the marriage of Zephaniah and Catherine in Luzerne county in 1811. Another Space family researcher states that Catherine's father died and her mother remarried Jacob NOLF/NULF/NULPH. The wife of Jacob NOLF was Barbara ? This family line is one I would love to document and get past the brick wall that is Catherine. Any assistance, leads or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
