Vince, I'm working on the house and just quickly checking my e-mails. That John Bernard Miller is from Northampton County and is a descendant of Bernhart Muller. That line is well documented. First, go here: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&db=bodenst&id=I02135 Then here: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ridge/7028/miller.html Then here: http://www.enter.net/~slabar/docs/desc6272.txt Then here: http://www.ristenbatt.com/genealogy/shplst31.htm Immigration There's lots more on his descendants on the Net. I have more than a passing interest in him because I believe he's related to our line but haven't had time yet to work on that aspect. I think that line married into mine later on too. Listers, Looking for information from grave, dates, etc. for the following man. Not sure if this information is correct, but it is all I have to go on: Harris, John (Major). Buried in Dallas. He supposedly was a major in the 1st Battalion, and had at least 2 daughters, one Louisa b. 1809 Kingston PA. Another daughter married a Rosencrantz. (A brief search brings up a PHEBE Harris who m. John Rosencrantz. They were in Forkston, Wyoming census. And Phebe has a daughter, Louisa.) Does anyone have knowledge of Dallas cemeteries? Dallas was formed in 1842 from Kingston township, according to the history online. I was hoping to find some transcriptions or at least a phone number for cemetery associations. Thanks for any help you can give! Holly Owego NY
Lynda, You list a Jacob Sr on that MILLER website of yours, but I don't see where you list a Jr.? If there was a Jr., and if you are not sure who he was, it would look like it would have been about the correct time for my fellow to appear. That Jacob Miller (mine) would have been the first husband of my step-2X-Greatgrandmother. Vince On 9/2/07, Lynda L. Vince, I think we corresponded before about the Millers of Luzerne County. There are many Jacob Millers in my Miller genealogy, but I don't have enough info to fit you into ours. Do you know WHERE your Jacob was born? Harvey and Harrison are names in our family. We originated in Northampton and Monroe counties and migrated to Luzerne and beyond. This website is helpful for church records: http://genealogyresearchcentral.com/ Look in the public records section. My people attended the Hamilton church, as did many Millers whose ancestors are scattered now around PA. There were Millers who helped settle Columbia County who were brought there by the Eyer brothers, who founded Bloomsburg (county seat). John Adam Eyer was the school teacher in Hamilton Twp. who purchased the land that is now Bloomsburg. He sent his brother to manage the land development and many folks from the Hamilton Twp. area migrated to the area through them. Catawissa is right next to Bloomsburg. Your Jacob is born at the right time to be a part of that migration from Northampton (now Monroe) County. In addition, your Jacob was born not long after the Year Without a Summer that was the impetus for the westward migration of people (and the invention of the bicycle). There would have been a reason to migrate, in other words. I have a working file of my Miller genealogy on my website that is nowhere near complete but you're welcome to look around: http://www.houseofwaterdancer.com/miller/Miller_Family_Genealogy.html I'm currently researching Christian Miller of the Forks of the Delaware as the earliest Miller in my line. My line, for the record, entered Luzerne County with my great grandfather, Josiah Miller of Wilkes Barre, then Kingston. His son, Lloyd, was my grandfather. I'd recommend that you try to track down the descendants of Jacob Miller, Sr. (b. 1769). Also, get on the Monroe County genealogy list. There are many helpful people, particularly a woman named Geri Brennan, who might help you track down your Jacob. You can try the Columbia County Genealogical Society to see if they have any records of Jacob Miller in the Catawissa area. If he married a woman born in Catawissa, it's likely that they met there. It's at least worth exploring. However, the folks at that Society aren't the most helpful. http://www.colcohist-gensoc.org/ They're on the second floor of the Bloomsburg Public Library on Market St. in Bloom. I'd go every other route before you try to get help from them. If you find any connection to my line, please contact me. Best wishes, Lynda Jones Bloomsburg, PA _____ . Hello Vince I have Millers in Columbia Co. just over the border from Luzerne. My grandmother was a Miller. I am afraid I don't have any information at hand as I am not at my home computer and won't be until later this month. She was born about 1875 and both she and her mother were Elizabeth. Sharon If you have the time I am trying to locate some information on my grandmothers family. Her name was Catherine Fritz she was born 9 Mar 1886 in Sugar Notch, Pa. Her fathers name was George Fritz son of John and Maria (Hoffman) Fritz. Her mothers name was Clara ?????. This is the info I am trying to locate. Clara died sometime in the latter 1890's. My grandmother told my mother that she was about 11 or 12 when her mother died. I have no idea where she is buried but I am assuming it would be somewhere around the Sugar Notch community. George was born in 1853. George was living in Pittston in the 1900 census and was working along with his son as a locomotive mechanic. Everyone that is searching this family has Clara's name but no one can locate her last name or how she died and burial place. Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated. Sharon, I would very much like to have that information. My GM and gf were married in June 1900. Her sister was married earlier the same year. That info would close the gap. I think you are correct that it might be his son. Lumber and cabinetmaking are in the family. Thank you for the info and quick response.
