    1. [PALUZERN] SNYDER
    2. Tom and Pat Krivak
    3. Seeking family of Henry SNYDER (1793-1865) and his wife Margaret (1793-1892). Both buried in White's cemetery--now known as Maple Grove, in Loyalville, Luzerne county. History of Luzerne county states he had a family of eight, so there should be other cousins about. My line is through son, Reuben (1832-1917) and Mary Ann DAVIS. Another Brick wall is a Philip H. SNYDER born 6 June 1873 in Ross twp. He was a widower before taking his second wife, Anna Marjorie Bulford in 1901. Unable to deterine Philip's parents or first wife. Would appreciate any hints. Hope to hear from you. Pat Krivak

    1. [PALUZERN] Church location
    2. List Members, I am trying to find the location and address of the St. Mary's Greek Catholic Church in Freeland, Luzerne, Pa if it still exists today. I am interested in looking for the marriage records of my g-g grandparents and the baptism record of my grandfather if they can be found. I have searched on the internet for the church but have been unsuccessful in locating any info on it and I have also wondered if the church may no longer exist. If anyone knows of an address where I can write to them for info I would be grateful. Thank you, Missy Zuber Atco, NJ Researching- Bias, Fatula, Lucash, & Zuber

    3. Hi Pam, I am glad to hear that you (and some other listers) have had success working with Folk Finders. I only question their ethics given the way they are obtaining e-mail addresses from this list to send out bulk solicitations. I will contact them to be removed from their list even though I was never asked to be put on it in the first place. I realize there are always two sides to every story. Thanks for your feedback. Nancy -----Original Message----- From: Pam Jones [mailto:pamjones_us@yahoo.com] Sent: Sunday, January 14, 2001 2:25 PM To: PALUZERN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [PALUZERN] FOLKFINDERS Just wanted to let the new people on the list know that I have purchased quite a few books from them and have helped alot of list members with look-ups from these books. Before I even offered to do look-ups I verified the information for it's accuracy. I subscribe to their newsletter as well as visiting their site often. It has been extremely helpful to me in my family research. And yes, the information is available at the library however Folkfinders has compiled it in a searchable format that I can have at my fingertips to do look-ups from home. I'm sure if you contact them to be removed from thier mailing they would do so. I'm thrilled to have another source of Luzerne County information in addition to rootsweb. I wish there were a dozen more. It just makes my research easier. Pam

Anyone posting personal emails (emails with any name in it) are subjected to removal from the list without further notice. 2nd Folkfinders is not on the list server nor is he tied to Luzerne county Genweb in anyway. He does use Ebay alot and has recieved many peoples email addresses through there. If you use ebay he may have gotten your email address through there or someone forwarding your list message to him. However, If you write him he will remove you from his mailings. 3rd Since folkfinder is a business and sells things for profit, those talking about his books and other items he sells he is advertising and is also against the guidelines of this list and you are subject to removal. So lets drop this topic and if you have any questions about folkfinders I suggest you go to his webpage at: www.folkfinders.com Tammy Lamb List Owner

    3. Betty, Either you missed my point or I failed to make my point clear. The only way this person (Jim from Folk Finders) would have known about my interest in PALUZERN would be through subscription to this Rootsweb mail list (PALUZERN). Many people replied to my message indicating they too have received these unsolicited Advertising/Promotional e-mails without being asked to be put on HIS mailing list. I am sure Jim must have obtained OUR e-mail addresses from our posts to the PALUZERN list. He may or may not be a subscriber to the list but could easily have obtained our addresses via our posts to PALUZERN in the Rootsweb archives. At the very least I am asking the List Owner of PALUZERN to verify that Jim from Folk Finders is not subscribed to the list. Also, anyone not wanting to receive these unsolicited e-mails from Folk Finders should reply to his unsolicited e-mail and ask to be removed from HIS list. He is required to honor your request. If you continue to receive his unsolicited e-mails after asking to be removed from his list, then you can report him to his ISP for unsolicited e-mail. Thank you, Nancy P.S. I have been told that any material offered for SALE at Folk Finders can be obtained elsewhere such as Libraries and Historical Societies. Please folks be careful about who you do business with. -----Original Message----- From: Betty Thomas [mailto:bettythomas@charter.net] Sent: Sunday, January 14, 2001 12:58 PM To: rascalz@worldnet.att.net; PALUZERN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PALUZERN] Luzerne County Genealogy Update The only people who have access to your address are rootsweb and your listowner. If it didn't have [PALUZERN] in the "from:" area then you didn't get it via the list. The only way to post to any rootsweb list is to subscribe, so its possible that someone can send something like that to the list, but not probable. It also could have been forwarded to the list by some other subscriber. In any case, I find it more fun to do my own leg work than to pay someone to do it for me. Betty
