Its been a long while since I sent a query regarding my Hancock ancestors, so perhaps there are some of you who have run across something that might help me. At present I am looking for information on the following William Hancock was born December 18, 1799, son of Jonathan and Catherine Young Hancock. He was a tanner and currier in Wilkesbarre as early as 1820. Later he moved to the borough of Luzerne where he lived until his death on Jan 7, 1859. He was commissioned as associate judge in Luzerne County courts Nov. 10, 1851. William was twice married: 1st to Laura Smith b Jan 12, 1800, m Feb 13, 1821, and d Nov. 4, 1846. Laura was the daughter of Obediah and Lucy Wright Smith. William and Laura are supposed to have had 6 children together. 2nd to Elizabeth Sill Denison b April 20, 1812, m Feb 15, 1848, d May 1855. She was the daughter of Lazarus and Elizabeth Carpenter Denison. William and Elizabeth are supposed to have had 3 children together. I am presently searching for the names of Williams children by both his wives, and any information that may be available on them. Any information or assistance would be most sincerely appreciated. Thanks, Maggie Hall

I can't remember off the top of my head who was researching these surnames, but I know there were a few on this newslist. http://www.rootsweb.com/~paluzern/newspaper/nov3_30.htm Wilkes Barre Record Extracts Covering Nov 2-30 1885 In Plymouth, Oct 31st, by Rev M Brown of the Christian Church. Wilkes-Barre Evening Leader, Wed, Jan 29, 1890 MARRIAGES: >From Plymouth: Prof W H VAN PLEES, the organist of St Vincent's Church, and Miss LIZZIE, the esteemed daughter of Dr MARSHALL G WHITNEY, of Church Street, were married very quietly at St Vincent's last Monday evening >From Stillwater: We had a very quiet wedding also, on Friday evening last, Mr F P KLASE, our station master, to Miss GRACE, daughter of the late SILAS MCHENRY. Mr KLASE brought the evening mail over, and after leaving it at the post office, he and Miss GRACE stepped into the pastor's house and were quietly united in wedlock. They then went to spelling school as innocently as if nothing had taken place, but the boys were not to be bluffed off in this way. Their fun was to come further on. So, on Saturday night, a crowd of them gathered before the house of the bride's mother, with drums, pans, bells, kettles, guns, and everything else that would make a noise, and for about an hour, they filled the valley with "horrid nice" music, nor did they let up when the bride and groom made an appearance, and the cigars and candles were forthcoming. Later on, the Bendertown Band arrived and completed the serenade. The other day I may have posted this same question. However for some reason I was not receiving any emails. So I subscribed again. Now the emails are coming through just fine. My question was........... Does anybody have any information concerning Meade's Pool Hall which was/or is located across the street from O'Malley Funeral Home? I have the Meade surname in my family tree and am just wondering about the family. Thanks for your help. Suzie
If you go to this site you will find a link at the top where you can find all townships in Pennsylvania. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/maps/pa/county/ Ed McClelland, Alexandria, Virginia.
Hello Everyone: Does anyone out there know how BARBER STREET in Swoyersville got it's name? I am researching the Barber Family and would like to find out which member of the family the street was named for. Thank You for any help. Pat
Try this website. It has PA county maps in PDF format. I downloaded the Luzerne Co map in the Type 3 maps (smaller file size) and it shows townships clearly. They also have a PA Railroad Map, I haven't downloaded it but there may be some interest. Other state may have similar websites. David www.dot.state.pa.us/bpr/bprinternet/carto/disclaimer-pdf.htm
If you follow route 20A starting just south of Buffalo, NY you will get to Silver Lake. I would guess it's about 80 miles, about 1 1/2 hours to drive. The closest town you might be able to find on a map of Western New York is Warsaw. A beautiful drive in the fall - but can be treacherous at this time of year. It's well into the 'mountains'. Fourth of July activities are great! This letter is going to 4 or 5 counties so prepare for repeats if you're on the lists. A few days ago I asked for a site that would give me all the townships to all the counties in all the states. Thanks to JIM McANDREW I have such a site. Read below: I think I found what you need to locate townships anywhere in the US. >Go to this web site: http://www.topozone.com/ > >This is a topical map web site where you can identify the location of >many places. Click on "Place Name Search". In the appropriate boxes >insert what you want to locate. (I used cemeteries in the "Place" box) >You don't need to put in a name in the "Name" box.
