    1. [PALUZERN] MCTIGUE Obit
    2. Cathy Cranford-Ailstock
    3. Hi folks, I have added a newspaper image of the obit for Mary KELLY MCTIGUE, Jan. 1908 Just click the link below and look for the link for The MCTIGUE Page. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cranford/cathy1.html There is also now a search engine on this main page. Works best if only the first 4 or 5 letters of either the first or last name is used. You may of course try all manners of ways, but I find it works the best this way, say if you type Cath* you will pull up each of my pages since I use my name on each page. How ever if you use say the name Kell* you will pull up everything on the site that has KELL in the first part of the last name. E.G. KELLER, KELLY, etc. Sometimes it pays to just hunt through the pages since some pages are transcriptions and may be misspelled. Good luck and I will be adding additional images of newspaper obits shortly. Will announce to the list when they are online. 1. Re: [PALUZERN] Search tip
    2. Another hint for the miracode index is... put into the search an unusual first name , fairly unusual, with or without a county. That always limited the number of hits quite a bit and most the time I found who I was looking for. Or, if someone was born in another country, put in to the search, surname country of birth (like Germany, Wales, whatever. this way you don't get all the Jones from Luzerne, but all the Jones from "country." Or you can put, surname county country of birth- that narrows your hits again. Another, and could be a bit time consuming, but if you are determined to find that elusive ancestor, you'll look at the many number of hits that show up like I did. And it's when I find the enumeration date and house visit number of one family and I know there are more families in that same area. I put in the search: county enumeration number, house visit number (one at a time, starting with the next number higher and working up from there. also doing the same thing and working one number backwards from the family I originally found.) I then called my mother and read the names off my list and most of the people she was able to tell me exactly where they lived in town and sometimes some info about them. Except for our relations, the extra info was of no use to me, but ...you still listen to the reminicing anyhows :-)) It's really interesting to hear the different stories and you learn more about the life and times of your relatives and their friends that lived in the same neighborhood. If you got someone in W. Nanticoke, a name...email me, I just might be able to tell you something about them :-))) I just need to consult "mom" By the way, Does Nash's Barber Shop still have the pool table in the back? And do the men still play chess/checkers on the table up front while they wait their turn for a haircut?

    1. [PALUZERN] Search tip
    2. I want to share something with everybody that helped me out alot. I have been having the hardest time finding my Grudis and Haber ancestors in Luzerne in 1910. As you may know, PA has a searchable miracode index for 1910 that lists children and spouses and ages. (I use Ancestry.com, but I think you can find it with other services or on CD ROM, etc.) Instead of searching using a last name, I used keywords. The keywords I used were first names of children, spouses, or head of household, or county, etc. I left the last name out completely. I found that that year, Grudus was indexed as Ruddis, and known Habers were indexed under Duhoish (looks like my great grandmother had a pevious marriage and Haber is the second marriage and is the adopted name of my grandfather.) I probably never would have found these two families otherwise. I hope this helps someone...

    1. [PALUZERN] Moore Family
    2. Hello all, I am new to this list. I am researching the Moore family from Wales. My ggg-grand mother Martha Moore was born in Pontypoole, Monmothshire, Wales on December 10, 1857. I believe she was the youngest child of Charles Moore and Ann Morris. She came to the United States at an early age. She married William Waugh in 1874 in Luzerne County. He died in a mine accident in 1885 in Luzerne County. Martha and William had three children, Joshua, Richard, and Joanna. After the death of William Waugh , Martha married Amza Spencer in South Dakota. I do not know why she went to South Dakota after the death of William. Martha died in 1920 and is buried in Marshfield, Missouri. I see there is a Moore family from Wales in Luzerne County and hope I can find a connection. Thank you for any help.

I thought nothing of it for the first entry but in the second case I knew what the individual's home address should have been (Breck St.) so I am wondering if that was some form of hospital or convalescent unit.
