It consists in the application of instantaneous photography to the illustration of sounds . His idea was that a speaker might be photographed from 8 to 20 times a second during his entire speech, while at the same time the phonograph was recording the spoken address. The phonograph and the mechanism of the camera were so connected that when the reproduction took place, both spoken words and photographic pictures would continue synchronously together, and that when the photographs were thrown on a screen, by means of a stereopticon, the rapid recurrence of the pictures would be such that the effect would be a continuous one, and as the phonograph reproduced the address, the gestures and the facial expression would appear to be that of the living speaker. The experiments were completely successful, and Mr Edison now has in his laboratory, a large number of these dual reproductions. As yet, there does not seem to be any practical commercial value to the invention. Ed, Phoenix

I am trying to obtain the death record and obituary for Patrick BRYAN who is buried in St. Vincent's cemetery in Larksville, PA. the church records indicate that he was buried on February 21, 1922, but when I requested the death certificate from PA Vital records (I indicated that the date of death may be a few days earlier) it came back no record. I had a similar situation with another relative and in that case I located an obituary that indicated the person actually died in another state and would be returned to St. Vincent's for burial. If anyone could check the newspaper obituaries in the Plymouth/Larksvile/ Wilkes-Barre area for that time period I would be most appreciative! TIA, Ruth FOLEY RILEY Mt. If you go to the Luzerne 1873 Atlas and click on Union Township, you can see Town Line. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/maps/pa/county/luzerne/1873/ Ed McClelland, Alexandria, Virginia.
My husband lived with his parents in Town Line for 10 years before we were married and moved to Buffalo, NY. I was born and raised in McKendree. John & I were married in the Huntington Mills Methodist Church and he and our eldest son are buried in Scott Cemetery, Waterton, PA. I am not familiar with the name of that minister. Sorry. Betty
Town Line, PA in Luzerne County is half way between Huntington Mills and McKendree, Pa. It is about 1 or 2 miles from each place. It is about 5 miles west of Shickshinny. Shickshinny is on Route 11, approximately 20 south of Wilkes-Barre, the county seat. Betty
The "e" needs to be added at the end of Luzerne - then it will work.
My ggf was George WEISMER and he was born in Dorrance Township in Nov. 1855. He lived on 30 Susquehanna St. in WB..and fathered 6 girls. I am interested in speaking with any connection to the WEISMER family. I am seeking information on his brothers John and Benjamin (Bosh) WEISMER. The brothers lived in the Scranton area and one owned a German bar "Over the Rhine".
I just tried the site, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/luzernpa that someone just posted. The result; no such site ????
..Tammy Lamb wrote: <<the PALUZERN list will accept brief announcements of books and other resource material for sale that is specifically related to this county. Don't include prices and ordering info; just include a pointer to a URL, a commercial mailing list, or an E-mail address where the complete ordering information can be found.>> I have a suggestion. When mentioning a source it would be helpful if it is noted whether the source is a CD that is being sold or something that can be accessed on line for free. In fact, I would go so far as to suggest that giving that information should be required for any source that is included in the PALUZERN list. That way those, like me, who seldom buy CDs, will most likely not take the time to access the website, which does take up valuable time. Even without mentioning the price, saying upfront that something is for sale rather than a matter of free access would be helpful to everyone. Lois in Malibu
