Freeland is in Foster Twp. in Luzerne Co. Yes, it still exists. Ancestry.com has some info about the census. You have to purchase a subscription to view the census image. I would be very much in this information as well! Donna
I've been observing this Luzern Co site for over a month now and I have yet to see any mention of Freeland. The family I am searching is Patrick and Mary (Ferry) Harvey. They had at least one child, Charles Borromeo Harvey who was born in 1888 in Freeland. That is all the information I could come up with from my family. Maybe someone can tell me what kind of a community Freeland was and if it still exists. Where is it located? What township might that be? If anyone can suggest a local library or archive to contact I would appreciate it. Thank you, Dianne Harvey

The Sunday Independent microfilm is available at the Osterhout Library in WB. It spans the years from (I believe) late 1880s to 1970s roughly. I have searched for any other microfilm location and have not found one. I was told that the Osterhout is the only copy. It is a very good paper to research although the obits for ordinary persons are sometimes hard to find. Generally they are located in the individual town sections, eg. Pymouth, Pittston, etc. There are plenty of names in each local section and once you get the hang of where to find your town's section, it goes rather quickly. Making copies is another matter as the page size is double the size of the copy maker and it is hard to line up. Good luck, Maureen
Hi List: I'm looking for information on James Lewis who was in the Civil War, worked in the mines, and became Police Chief in Plymouth, Pa. He married Fanny Barber and they had 7 children. Fanny Barber was my Great Aunt. Would love to share information. TYI Pat
