Would anybody know if there are any pictures of the old Pittston Boarding houses during the 1920's? My Great-grandfather owned a boarding house on Spruce Street in the old Houston Village. Could anyone kindly tell me the purpose of the boarding house? Barb R.
I have come across a picture of the Agassiz Association which was a history study club which was formed by young Wilkes -Barre boys and girls in 1881. This was fostered by the Wyoming Historical and Geological Society. Those pictured are from various places in Pa. Local woman include such maiden or married names BEAUMONT ; ROCKAFELLER ; ELLIOTT ;DERR ; DE FOREST; JOHNSON ; REYNOLDS; MILLER. If you feel you have any association with these or any others please contact me direct and I can e-mail you a copy of the article. Pecsr@epix.net Paul C.

Listers, I need a favor: can someone with access to Thursday's (5 April 2001) print edition of the Hazleton Standard-Speaker provide me with the complete obituary for Harry C. Borneisen? The online edition of the Standard-Speaker does not include all the details that are given in the print edition. I suspect I have a connection, but need this information to be sure. Many thanks, Chris (in chilly southern California) cshumphreys@earthlink.net

The Recorder of Deeds in Luzerne County is Mary Dysleski. She can be reached by calling (570) 825-1641. Also, there is a local company who conducts property research (not for genealogy), but they may be able to offer you a low cost deed search. Contact Marie at United One Resources at (570) 824-7811, Ext. 453. Best of luck! I know of three cemteteries in Bear Creek. "The Pines Cemetery" is directly off State Route 115 near the Bear Creek Dam/Bear Creek Villge. Another is the Lewis Family Cemetery, located off State Route 115 and White Haven Road. The third cemetery is located on Route 115 near the entrance to the Pennsylvania turnpike. Most individuals buried in the small but elaborate Lewis Cemetery were members of that family. The Bear Creek Historical Society may have more info. The Pines is an old, small cemetery. The third is more modern and is still active. Hello fellow genealogists, I, too, am looking for cemeteries in or near Bear Creek. My grandmother, Anna BENDUS, was born there, as were her siblings. Her parents were Michael BENDUS and Mary BENDUS (formerly Timo). Any info about the cemeteries or this family name would be welcome. Thank you, Denise S. (in Oklahoma City, OK)

This is the closest I've come to breaking down the brick wall surrounding my Boyle family. The 1873 map of Hazleton shows a Mrs. Boyle living in approximately the same spot that my William J. Boyle and family are on Wyoming St. starting from about 1886-1900 across from St. Gabriel's Church. Then a kindly lister told me that today the Boyle Funeral Home is across the street from St. Gabriels. Too much of a coincidence for me. I wrote the funeral home and haven't heard back yet, but was wondering if I could do something more proactive. You know how it is..... Has anyone written the Recorder of Deeds Office at the courthouse asking for a lookup on transfer of deeds from say 1873 to 1886 and then again in 1900/1902? Cost? Pam Oregon
For Ruth Riley Request you post to the list as to results of your letter to St Mary's in Wilkes-Barre as I would like to write & request some information from the same Church. Andy - Guam USA ------------------------------------------------------------- You wrote I too, would be interested in any information on lister's experiences getting information/mail replies to queries. St. Mary's - Avoca and St. Mary's in Wilkes-Barre are two that I am interested in, but the information would probably beneift the list in general. I just posted a letter to St. Mary's Wilkes Barre earlier this week, so we'll see how long it takes. I did include a donation, but if there is a fee charged, it may not have been sufficient.
