    3. I understood that the forerunner of Ellis Island was "Castle Gardens", but would also be interested in information re what earlier records are held from there. The website claims records will be available for Ellis Island from 1892. Any addition info will be appreciated. -jacki ----- Original Message ----- From: "Curly Porter" <kpfp44@hotmail.com> To: <PALUZERN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, April 12, 2001 2:22 PM Subject: [PALUZERN] Castle Clinton > Hello~was wondering if there are records of immigration for Castle Clinton? > Would they be incorporated with the Ellis Island records? > If anyone has any info on "the Castle" would appreciate it. > Curly > _________________________________________________________________ > Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com > > > ==== PALUZERN Mailing List ==== > If you wish to UNSUBSCRIBE: > PALUZERN-L-request@rootsweb.com > place UNSUBSCRIBE in body of message, leave subject empty > >

    2. Marvelous, Marvelous! This is my great grandmother, remarrying, after the drowning of my great- grandfather, to Antonio Cattaneo. Can someone tell me what BANNS is? My great-grandmother was attending, I am sure, St. Vincent dePaul. But Antonio was clearly Italian, and I am wondering if he would not have been attending a different church? Which would be the most likely for Italians in Plymouth, assuming he did go to a different church. Anyone connect to this name? Wilkes-Barre Evening Leader, Mon, Apr 7, 1890 BRIEFS: From Plymouth: The banns of marriage were announced at Easter mass for JOHN BOYLE and Miss MARY CARR, and for ANTONIO CATTANEO and Mrs ELLEN SUMMERS Thanks, yet again, Ed. You have really been a tremendous source of good tidings to this list. Vince

    3. Vince, Here is a site that might explain marriage banns a bit better than I can. Banns as I understand it, were brought forth to show any impediment that might prevent a marriage, such as a person already being married at the time of marrying another, etc. Some were made to put forth money (actually did not put up money but...) if it were found that there was indeed a legal means to prevent the marriage, the money would then have to be paid by the person fronting the money. Usually this was the person who applied for the marriage license. http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/02255a.htm Hope this might help you and someone else on the list. 3. Lois, If you go to the 1873 Atlas index and click on Miners, you can see it and several other boroughs. Maybe that is what you are looking for. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/maps/pa/county/luzerne/1873/ Ed McClelland, Alexandria, Virginia.

    1. [PALUZERN] Update on Records for St. Mary's in Wilkes Barre
    2. Ruth Riley
    3. Hi listers, I am writing, as promised, to let you know what I discovered during my trip to Wilkes Barre this past weekend relative to records for St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Wilkes Barre. I visited the Wyoming Historical and Geological Society on Franklin Street Saturday and they have a large black binder - probably 2-3 inches thick, containing xeroxed records from the church - baptism and death - probably marriage, but I didn't have time to look at the book very long. The copies are as good as can be expected - in long hand, naturally, and in Latin. It appeared that the records go back to the beginning of the Church - 1845 I believe, but again I'm not positive. Unfortunately, I got invloved in another aspect of my research and it was almost time to leave when I realized I hadn't looked into this, so my time was limited. I inquired if they had or were expecting to purchase the 4 volume set of cemetery records that the NorthEast Pennsylvania Genealogical Society recently published. The lady told me she believed they were to recieve a copy. I also ran into a person who has already ordered a set for her own use , but hasn't yet received it - so it may be a bit soon. All in all, good news! Regards, Ruth FOLEY RILEY Mt. Airy, MD Researching FOLEY/FOLLY, BRYAN/BRYANT, HOLLERAN/HOULIHAN __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? She leaves a husband and family to mourn her demise I believe this is the mother of Hannah Salvage, the first wife of my ggrandfather John Rescorla. Can someone tell me if this is all there was to the notice, and if it's possible to get a copy of it? Thanks, Kim In Missouri
