    3. I have seen lettuce at $2.00+.  Guess what I done, put it back.  Hope Basil will plant some to have fresh this year.  I would love some good fresh lettuce instead of peas this year.  Even the cumcubers were high last spring.  ________________________________ From: Palmertree Listowner <palmertree.listowner@gmail.com> To: palmertree@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, January 31, 2013 7:21 PM Subject: Re: [PTREE] salad I don't think I'll be eating much green salad for a while. I love salads, and they are a staple in my diet. Especially with being diabetic - like what is there to eat without sugar and carbs in it???? Anyway, stopped by a drive-in restaurant the other day to get a blue plate special for dinner.  While waiting for the carhop to bring my  order, I was interested in a hand-written sign on the entrance door: "Due to the recent freeze in California, the price of lettuce has gone up. Well, was in Wal-Mart a few hours ago and went through the vegetable aisle -  noticed the price of iceberg was $1.75 a head. I bet I don't let my lettuce ruin like I used to.... It's always been pricey in "supermarkets", though. Always tried to find the best price around town on it. I just hate the thought of paying almost $2.00 for iceberg lettuce. 3. The last time I priced lettuce here it was $1.25. Think it was Monday.... I usually buy spinach in the bag. Aldi has it on sale a lot for .99 and if its not on sale, Walmart has it for $2.15 a bag. Doesn't last as long as Aldi's for some reason ... but both of them last longer than Publix's bags of spinach and they charge alot more.
