Has anyone here ever heard of a woman's hairdo (must be 40s or 50s) called "victory rolls"? I saw it in an advertisement on Ancestry.com for their U.S. Yearbook Collection. The ad said: "See whether Grandma sported a bob, a bouffant, or victory rolls in our newly doubled U.S. Yearbook Collection." I have never heard the term "victory rolls" and wondered what is was. Is it anything like the girls of the 50s and 60s using orange juice cans for rollers???????????????? Thanks. Ken
They were a WWII hairstyle popular in the late 1940's and early 1950's. Nova, my mother had one of those "rats" and I suffered many hours of having hair brushed, pinned and curled over one of those things. Then of course you had to keep checking to be sure that the "rat" didn't show through your hair. I was so glad when long, straight hair became the style! http://www.beauty-and-the-bath.com/vintage-style-victory-rolls.html http://www.hairthursday.com/stuff/hair-today-victory-rolls.htm Jeannine
