The Star-Herald Kosciusko, MS March 11, 2009 Maxine Dees Parks Mary Maxine Dees Parks, 81, of Florence, formerly of Ethel, died March 4, 2009 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. Visitation is Friday, March 6, 10-11 a.m. at Jordan Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Liberty Chapel Cemetery with burial to follow. Rev. Mitchell Hedgepeth will officiate. Mrs. Parks, born in Oiltown, Okla., was a member of Marvin Methodist Church of Florence. She was also a basketball star during World War II at Ethel High School. She is survived by her husband, Melvin Haywood Parks Sr. of Florence; sons, Melvin Haywood Parks Jr. of Houston, Texas, and William E. Parks of Braxton; daughters, Mary Ann parks of Jackson, and Dee Spencer of Clinton; brother, William Archie Dees of Bloomington, Ind.,; sister, Edna Earl Cotter of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Archie and Nina Alberta Sweatt Dees. Memorials may be sent to the American Diabetes Foundation.
