The Greenwood Commonwealth Greenwood, MS March 28, 2008 Erin Locke Chesteen NATCHEZ - Services for Erin Locke Chesteen of Natchez will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Friendship Community Cemetery in Kilmichael. Mrs. Chesteen, 89, died of surgery complications Friday, March 21, 2008, at Natchez Community Hospital. Mrs. Chesteen was born June 15, 1918, in Kilmichael, the daughter of Benjamin and Artie Locke. A retired bookkeeper, Mrs. Chesteen attended the University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi State College for Women. She worked for Hughes Aircraft Corporation during World War II as assistant to the Engineering Group. She later married F.C. Chesteen, a career serviceman, and lived abroad for approximately 10 years in various European cities. She returned to live in her hometown and retired from the Bank of Kilmichael, spending her retirement years active in travel and genealogical pursuits. Mrs. Chesteen's research resulted in 11 entries to the registry for Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of the Natchez Rosalie Chapter and honorary member of Thomas Rodney Chapter in Winona. Her recent travels included Ireland, home to numerous ancestors, Alaska, the New England Seaboard, Mexico, two Caribbean cruises, Niagara Falls, Canada and the U.S.S. North Carolina. The trips were made with long time friend Joseph Paine and others. Mrs. Chesteen's life was that of a strong Christian woman who placed her family first. She will be remembered as complete. She was preceded in death by both parents; her husband, Fred C. Chesteen; her brother, Lawrence M. Locke; and a nephew. She is survived by her son, Tim. G Chesteen; three nephews; three nieces; and numerous cousins and friends. Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight at Lee Funeral Home in Winona.
