Ken, I've heard just a bit about those chimps getting out of control. For a little while in the 80s, the owner of Washoe, the chimp who was taught American Sign Lanuage had his program at OU. One of his employees (his wife taught at our school) came to speak at the school where I was working. It was really interesting. He said you had to work differently with all the different personalities. Once they had a tour by American Sign Language students and they were blown away by the chimps doing all the signing. Those chimps made up words also, I wish I could remember all of them but the two that I've never forgotten were, they called Brazil nuts - rock nuts and swans - water birds. Every Christmas when I buy the mixed nuts, I think of those chimps because I think Rock Nuts are a much better name. He also told about some older chimp who would sell his soul for a raisin. Reminds me of our Chico, who is a very well fed little dog that will start jumping, flipping and turning around when he sees me open the front door with one treat. But this guy also warned of the damage the chimps could do with one swipe of a hand. I like them in the zoo, not my neighorhood.
