The Greenwood Commonwealth Greenwood, MS February 18, 2009 Mamie Elizabeth 'Big Mama' Barrentine Services for Mamie Elizabeth "Big Mama" Barrentine of Greenwood will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Williams and Lord Funeral Home. Mrs. Barrentine, 86, died of heart failure Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital. Mrs. Barrentine was born in Carroll County on May 29, 1922, to the late Robert Jefferson and Clara C. Tyler Muirhead. She resided in the Vaiden area for a number of years before moving to the Centerville community. She attended the Vaiden Public School System, was a homemaker and worked several years at a hosiery factory in West. She was a member of Centerville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her spouse of 65 years, William Albert Barrentine Sr.; three sisters, Annie May, Elvie Burrell and L.E. Muirhead; and two brothers, Rufus Muirhead and Hubert Muirhead. Mrs. Barrentine is survived by her son, William Barrentine Jr of Greenwood; her daughter, Mamie "Jo" Bruce of Greenwood; two brothers, R.C. Muirhead of Sidon and Virgil Muirhead of Cleveland; three sisters, Clarice Campbell of Coffeeville, Lillian Aldy of Sallis and Elsie Gunther of West Helena, Ark.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Williams and Lord Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Moore will officiate at the services. Pallbearers will be Josh Story, Jarrod Barrentine, Mitch Barrentine, Bill Downs, Bruce Story and Odie Barrett. Honorary pallbearers are Jeff Barrentine, Kelly Hutchison, Tony Aldy and Jeremy Story. Williams and Lord Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Centerville Cemetery.
