The Greenwood Commonwealth Greenwood, MS February 18, 2009 Evelyn Hodges Hester MERIGOLD -- Services for Evelyn Hodges Hester of Merigold, formerly of Winona, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Winona. Mrs. Hester, 89, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at the Bolivar Medical Center in Cleveland. Mrs. Hester was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Winona for more than 70 years. She was also an active member of the Triple-L Club and helped start the Rook Club. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years. Shortly before her illness she placed membership with the First United Methodist Church in Greenwood. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Madie West; her first husband, Thomas Hodges; her second husband, Col. Guy "Slick" Hester; and daughter, Carolyn Hodges Costilow. Mrs. Hester is survived by three sons, Thomas Hodges of Merigold; Jack Hodges of Greenwood and his wife, Carol, and Kenny Hodges of Starkville and his wife, Kaye; two sisters, Jewel Burgin of Holly Springs and Judy Farrell of Clinton; her sister-in-law, Mavis Pounds of Atlanta; her former son-in-law, Billy Costilow of Winona; her former daughter-in-law, Terraseta Hodges of Greenwood; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lee Funeral Home in Winona. The Rev. Glenn Seefeld and the Rev will officiate at the services. Lee Funeral Home in Winona is in charge of arrangements.
