    1. Re: [PTREE] Whiskey Stills again
    2. Peggy, There is a story about Joe's Dad Hornback and brother during the depression in the knob hills around New Haven, Ky. The revenuers showed up, they both took off running as fast as they could, Joe's feisty little dad got away by jumping into the river and got away that way. His brother ran into a tree, knocking himself out cold and they got him. I think he was "away" a short time. Now people say it is dangerous even to go hunting or fishing where you are not sure about, because of the pot fields hidden. They guard them and it is dangerous. There was even a rumor of my Granny Mary Ann making shine after my Grandfather Tom P'tree got really sick before he died. She had a full household to support, when a cousin whispered this to me just a few years ago, I said "Good for her, she got busy doing what she had to do, to support her children and other family children that were orphans from the typhoid epidemic. This cousin was one of the orphans and she was old enough at the time to remember a lot of things. Good family source for me. I remember one story where they said Granny kept a bottle on the mantel for Grandpa's congested heart disease, Brother Neal the preacher & his wife were coming over and someone suggested moving the bottle and Granny Mary Ann supposdedly said "Just leave it right where it is, if he wants a drink he can have one, if not, then he can leave it alone." When I get time, I want to research Brother Brannum (sp?) Neal. They were all such close friends, I've wondered if they came up from NE Texas with the family, so many came up about that time. Or if the friendship was from him helping them get through those seven typhoid deaths right after moving to Garvin CT. Having lots of doctor visits for Mom with the Wound Care Center. She has a spot on her ankle that won't heal, but I'll be ready to be her roommate out there when this is all over, wearing me out. Just bring me my food (pretty good food too) and books and a radio and I'll be fine at least for a couple of weeks until I get rested up. Joe threatens to put me out there, he doesn't know that right now, it sounds like a promise instead of a threat. Ha Must go, service is going up and down. I live out here in no man's land where signals are weak. It's really good talking to you today. Cooking for a family dinner with the two kids and families who live here, later today, may get in a game of stadium toss, bean bag toss or you know what I call it. About two years ago I was out pursueing my hobby of looking for old cemeteries out in the woods when I walked up on a "works". They were not still there, but the cans, propane tank, hoses, etc were littered all over the ground. I decided that I had 'seen' enough for one day and lit a blue streak out of the woods! I was talking about it to one of my friends at the University and he said that they now teach in Forestry School what to do if you come up on one...and how to be non-threatening and back away if there are people there. It's scary! Loved your story about the preacher...that's what puts the flesh on the bones of our research. Jeannine > > > > > . > **************An Excellent Credit Score is 750.
