July 23/25 1952 The Winona Times Winona, Ms. Returns From 8 Months In Korean Combat Area Long Beach, Calif.-- Returning here aboard the heavy cruiser USS Saint Paul after spending nearly eight months in the Korean Combat area is William B. Overstreet, yoeman; third class, USN, son Mr. & Mrs. Floyd Austin of Winona, & husband of Mrs. Patsy Lou Overstreet of 2338 Webster St. Long Beach, Calif. The Saint Paul spent her time during the cruise ranging the length of North Korea's East Coast. From the battle line, at Kosong, to Chongjin, within 50 miles of the Siberian & Manchurian borders. Her duties varied from giving direct gunfire support to United Nations front line troops to the destruction of railway targets near the key Red points of Songjin & Wonsan & the bombardment of North Korea headquarters & supply installations in chongjin.
