    3. June 13 or 18, 1953 Star Herald Kosciusko, Ms. News of Attalans In The Service O.D. McElroy Trains in Texas Oliver D. McElroy, 20, son of Mr. & Mrs. O.H. McElroy, of Poplar Creek, is completing his AF basic airman indoctrination course at Lackland Air Force Base , the "Gateway to the Air Force" in Texas. Lackland, situated near san Antonio, is the world's largest air force base , site of Air Force basic training, for men & women, headquarters of the Human Resource Research Center, & home of AF's officer candidate school. His basic training is preparing him for entrance into the Air Force technical; training & for assignment in specialized work. The course includes a scientific evaluation of his aptitude & inclination for following a particular vocation & career.

    3. Peggy, Now that's an interesting find. You just never know what you'll dig up in old newspapers when you go searching. Thanks for sharing that little bit of historical news with us. That was 2 years before he married Francine. Tell us - what would you say was the most startling or surprising thing you just happened across in all these years of scavenging through these old news papers? I'd love to know.     3. Peggy, I forgot something in my other note. June 13, 1953 was a Saturday. June 18, 1953 was a Thursday, so I believe June 18, 1953 is the right date for this paper issue since I believe The Star Herald has most always published on Thursdays.
