    3. Lois & Elbo hasn't said anything about it, but that don't mean something didn't happen. In those small Delta towns, any thing could happen at any time. But if any thing exciting happen & I find out about it, I'll let you know. 3. When I lived in Drew back in the 50s, I used to date boys from Ruleville. We had a bit of excitement back then -- there was a gas pipeline being laid and it ran through Drew and Ruleville .... all down the state I think. One night about 3 a.m., I woke up smelling gas. It was summertime and the windows were open. I got up and went outside and looked around and all my neighbors were out looking, too. It was a bit overpowering. Later, one of the boys I knew told me that he and some other boys had been driving around near the construction site where the pipeline people kept their equipment and they just happened to see a stray container of the stuff that is added to gas to make it smell like gas. (I worked for Mobil Gas LP division later in life and learned the name of this stuff is "stinkum"....and it only takes a tiny bit added to lots of gallons of gas to give it an odor - which gas doesn't have on its own). Anyway, they put the container on the back of the truck and rode around African American town letting it pour out on the street and when they finished there, they went somewhere else. "Saw lawyer Everett out in his night shirt looking for a gas leak" ... they thought it was funny. Scared the xxxx out of everybody else. Life did get interesting in Drew and Ruleville, even then. The boy who told me about it (it was his truck) called me a few years later when he passed through Memphis. He was in the Navy and was in the Shore Patrol. ----- Original Message ----- From: "peggy palmertree" <psmpalmertree@bellsouth.net> To: <palmertree@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, May 26, 2009 9:10 AM Subject: Re: [PTREE] Ruleville,MS?? > > Lois & Elbo hasn't said anything about it, but that don't mean something > didn't happen.
