Bennett (July 27, 1914 - June 1, 2009) Funeral services for Mr. Cecil V. Bennett of Winona will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, at Oliver Chapel in Winona with Eastern Star rites. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Winona, with Masonic rites at graveside. Bro. Lee Marter and Bro. Jerry McNeer will officiate the services. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 2, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Oliver Funeral Home. Mr. Bennett died of cancer on Monday, June, 1, 2009, at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital in Winona. He was 94 years old. Mr. Bennett was the son of the late Y. V. and Minnie Lee Bennett. He was a former police officer, and a retired cattleman and landscape contractor. He was a member of Community Baptist Church near Winona, Masonic Lodge #48 of Winona, and the Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Bertha M. Tardy; two sisters, Bertha Estelle Bennett and Katie Sykes Nail; and three brothers, Willie David "Bill" Bennett, J. W. Bennett, and Alton Bennett. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Bennett of Winona; stepdaughters, Louise Jordan of Brandon and Cathy Costilow of Carrollton; stepsons, Ralph Barrentine of Carrollton and Johnny Barrentine of Carrollton; sister, Alma Ree Eskridge of Duck Hill; brother, James Bennett of Pascagoula; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be the men of the Winona Masonic Lodge #48. Honorary pallbearers will be John Killebrew and the City Cafe Coffee Club.
