    3. Peggy, I had really forgotten about Claitor but did have him in Walters 1920 census... I think that his GGG and my GG grandfathers were brothers as both were born in Georgia and wound up in Winston and Attala County. That would make us 3rd cousins once removed... "Mac" McElroy, 89, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2009, in Greenwood, Mississippi at home with his family. Mr. McElroy was born 30 November 1919, in Ethel, Mississippi to Mr. and Mrs. Walter McElroy. He served honorably in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He attained the rank of staff sergeant as an aircraft mechanic. Mr. McElroy founded MC's parts in Greenwood in 1962. Mr. Mac was a fixture in downtown Greenwood, having kept his store at the same downtown location on Carrollton Avenue for over 45 years. He is preceded in death by his son, Gary Julius McElroy; granddaughter, Lindsey Sue McElroy; and his second wife, Lorraine McElroy. Mac is survived by first wife, Susie Kuykendall McElroy of Greenwood and Panama City Beach, Florida; daughters, Moxie Gary and son-in-law, Tommy Gary of Greenwood and Shirley Simmons and son-in-law, Harry Simmons of Yazoo City; granddaughters, Emily Simmons of Jackson, Shelly Gary of Nashville, Tennessee, and Katy Simmons of Jackson; and grandson, Lawson Gary of Greenwood. Visitation will be at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood today at 1 pm. A 2 pm graveside service will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery Mausoleum. The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
