The Times-Picayune New Orleans, LA December 25, 1983 Official's personal use of computer is studied Clinton, MS - Hinds County Data Processing Director Ray Palmertree's use of county computers for personal profit may be investigated by the state Department of Audit and the city of Clinton, officials said. Palmertree had been preparing Clinton's tax rolls on the computers. County Board of Supervisors President Roger Stewart said the board decided unanimously after meeting in closed session with Palmertree to excuse his use of the county's equipment for private gain in return for his agreement to let the county receive the $2,400 he requested from Clinton for preparing its tax rolls this year. The supervisors also voted to allow Palmertree to keep the $6,750 he collected from Clinton between 1976 and January 1983. But Assistant Attorney General P. L. Douglas said state law prohibits any use of public property for private gain, even if approved by county officials. Ken
