    1. Re: [PTREE] Jesse "Jay" Palmertree, Jr.
    2. Peggy, Ken and all, Jay was my first cousin's son Jesse Henry Palmertree Jr but was called Jay most of his life. Jay's grandparents were two of the seven that died of typhoid just after moving to OK in 1922. Ben "Major" Joseph Palmertree and his wife Ada McNear Palmertree. My grandmother nor anyone else could remember why Ben was called Major. I asked when I was young and no one was ever able to explain it. I have his Texas registration card for the service but he didn't have to go. Another of Ben and Ada's children is my cousin Vera Mae Ruppe, my Granny Mary Ann and Grandpa Thomas Henry P'tree raised Jesse Sr. and Vera on the family farm. Vera is a little older so she was married when I started realizing how every one was related but I grew up on the farm with Jesse and another of the 1922 orphans (although he had a dad, but he worked off a lot) so Jesse and Gene French were like our brothers more than cousins. I know my sisters and I aggravated them something awful. Mother used to laugh about the tricks they played to get away from us. I'm so glad I took the time to go visit Jay after he was getting pretty low with cancer. He was a big OU fan so when I saw one of those OU Locker books in a store, I just bought it and took it down to him in Wynnewood. If you haven't seen one of these, you should look for your favorite University Locker, I think Walmart now has them. It is a reg.book in a box and has loose things in pockets like tickets from some famous games, old cheers, lists, almost every other page has a pocket with something interesting. I later sent one to my Coast Guard grandson who enjoys rooting for his hometown team. Anyway his mother told me that Jay got a lot of good hours looking through that book with his neices and nephews. Thanks for putting these on. Peggy. You do a great job of keeping the line going with your searching for obits. The Norman Transcript has now stopped putting in an obit for everyone unless the family puts one in. They sometimes just list the person's name. or a one line listing. Of course the genealogy society was shocked by this decision. I wonder if any questions will be asked of the Exe. Editor when he speaks to our group meeting in Nov. I have a feeling it will be brought up. I wasn't thinking about this issue when I invited him to speak. He is just such a good speaker on old Norman info of all kinds. Thanks again Peggy. .
