This is a great tribute !!!! ________________________________ From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, October 10, 2011 11:00 AM Subject: Re: [PTREE] Don Grice Friends, cousins and tater-vine cousins, I was on a three day road trip with Joe, my sister Beverly & husband Jim when Reitha called about Donnie. Terrible news, I am such an optimist, I never give up hope until I have to. Donnie and I met, as you all know, at a restaurant up on I-240 but we bonded that day over family photos of both OK P'trees & MS P'trees also many many laughs, Mace etc and began a great friendship. I had taken containers of Brownies and Okie Pecan Treats for him to eat on the way on to Arkansas. I will miss Donnie more than I can say. To know that I will not open my email up to see a note from Donnie is hard to believe. Telling me some of his witty stories about the stevedores he managed by computer, that was all a brand new subject to me. Hearing him describe a ship docking, he having to figure out on his computer how many guys they needed to help with the unloading and then calling them in. They sounded like a rowdy bunch, I think they drank a bit, spending their hard earned pay pretty quickly and was calling him to get scheduled back to work. That is how it sounded to me. Or he would be telling me about his vegetable gardening or the neighbors or other friends he invited in for home cooking. Sounds he was a pretty good cook!! and a good neighbor! He would send little 'funny' jokes and I would Pretend to be offended and tell him. "Donnie, you are JUST awful." and he would just answer back something like "ha ha ha." But he was one I could also share with when I was down or tired and he understood. I just knew that anytime he would have his computer hooked up and back on the line with us. So you can see why I will miss Donnie a great deal. Joe had met & liked him when he came by the house for a quick visit later on. He was one of the Good Guys!! I certainly wish I could be there in MS at the church and all but will be remembering him with kindness.
