    1. Re: [PTREE] hi
    2. Dottie, I'm so glad you got through your cancer scare. Plus, Thanks for the reminder to do self exams along with our mammograms. Never can hear that too often!! I have mine scheduled for Fri. and they do both kinds. I've always tried to keep up because I have several first cousins that had that problem. The weather here is like always, crazy! It starts out in the morning cold, then cooler, than warm and by 1 pm it is hot, then later starts the routine the other direction to where it is good sleeping weather. You have to carry a jacket or wrap to take on and off. Well, need to get busy, going into town later to finish a bulletin board at the gen library and later attend a birthday celebration of Sept birthdays for my sister whose was 77 on Sept 18. She hates those things, she may choose to stay in her room. I had her out here for a birthday supper & gifts on the day. Joe said why don't you walk her around and introduce her to more people, I told him he just doesn't understand, you don't walk Mary around unless Mary wants to be walked around!! Bless her little heart. I don't mind if she just sits and reads, that is her favorite activity only now at the living center, everything is being done for her, meds kept straight, clothes washed and hung back in her closet, room cleaned, the staff have gone overboard to try to get her out and about more but that is what she had been doing for years and I doubt if she will change now. She looks so with it and all that, the activity lady wants her to join the crafts group but years ago Mary laughed when Beverly and I wanted her to do something, I can't remember what and she just scoffed at doing crafts and said, you guys will give me enough of them anyway. Which was true! Now if they had some slot machines or real bingo up in the lobby, she might be more interested, but guess what most of the bingo prizes are? CRAFTY THINGS!! HA. She couldn't live by herself anymore and didn't want to live with family so that is the best place for her. Right now, she is at the "out of sight, out of mind" stage, so we feel better about her being there. I know the reasoning is not right but at times I have wondered if she can't remember so much, how come she can remember to smoke? I know, I know!!!! They can walk out the back door to the smoking area and the center even installed a mister overhead of the tables and chairs. Well, didn't mean to go on so long about my sister but that is one thing that keeps me busy these days. I volunteered yesterday for the activity director to work at the crafts sale and bake sale, the money was for presents to buy all the residents presents at Xmas. That director is one busy lady! I hope everyone has a great day. Nova . In a message dated 9/28/2011 6:43:55 A.M. Friday I cleaned the pool area real good -- Sunday it rained a good bit and Monday we got about 4 inches more ... the water ran off from the house behind me (we are a bit lower) and I thought it was going to come in the house at one point. It was just too much rain so fast ... the pool over flowed ... and when it was over there was a lot of dirt on the deck. Fortunately the pool itself didn't get any dirt so that was o.k. The ground was so saturated with water it just couldn't soak up any more. I spent yesterday cleaning again -- and the humidity was so high I had to wash my hair when I came inside--soaking wet! I am sorry to hear about your friend in Pensacola. She lives too far away for me to check on. I hope someone who volunteers will help her. Chemo drains you fast...I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1996. I had surgery followed by chemo ... I was stage 2A. The chemo was very mild but by the time it was over I was really dragging. Its something that stays with you - the fear never goes away - but it does lessen with time. My sister and several first cousins were not as lucky. It runs in my family...my mother's side. For what it's worth -- I read the breast cancer message boards -- and many, many women who were diagnosed had already had mammograms and it wasn't seen -- they found it by doing a self-exam. So keep that in mind -- and do everything possible to know what is "normal" so you can tell if something is wrong.
