I remember the Blackwood Bros gospel music very well. I grew up in Drew, Sunflower Co. We had Blackwood family there. One was a county supervisor - forgot his name. The other was Kenneth Blackwood. He was my mother's boyfriend for many years - until we moved to Memphis and he retired somewhere near his daughter. Gang, Belated thanks to all! I got a new smartphone cell phone, and a few new things for my computer. I told you I had the Peter Pan syndrome...... ha. I am back to last July in reading my e-mail, so please understand these out of synch messeges. Ken ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Just wanted to wish Ken a happy birthday and say that I hope he has many more. Dorothy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------- Buckoo, you will soon be as old as I am. Let me tell you something, the older you get the slower you become, unless you go golfing like Ed. With the hot weather, I'm staying in. If you had come down I would have made you a strawberry cake that is good. I know "George Jones"!!! Hope you had/have a good BIRTHDAY. Peggy Maybe so, but then, you will still be older than me!! I better quit thinking about it. I've had some miserable days the past 2-3 years, but the tops was having to live in a nursing home for a month to have some therapy. Oh, I cannot even bear to think about it. I was so poor and pitiful - would NOT have had anyone on the list see me like that. I could not walk or even help myself stand because of my muscles deteriorating from being in an induced coma for 4-5 months. And the CNAs were constantly yelling at me "Can't you at least stand up????". No, stupid. My legs won't even work. It felt as if my legs were rubber bands when I would try to stand up or walk. I came really close to losing my religion on the staff more than a few times. Sure will give you a different perspective on things! You also see who really cares about their job and who just likes to have a paycheck coming in. Ken

Jerry, My husband and kids like my cooking and I do eat way too much of it, I'm a very plain cook, just regular ol stuff. I have the slow cooker going with tomato soup for dinner tonight. I will make the regular cornbread to go with that. Mom always made a tomato soup with out too many ingredients, just canned tomatoes, cubed potatoes, onions, salt and pepper. I never got tired of that. I try to remember if she put bell pepper in it but can't remember and she would not have had those in the winter time when I was a kid, I don't think anyway. The ones that wanted it would add pepper sauce to theirs, you know the kind of little peppers she bought and then added vinegar to it for years to make more sauce. We never ate the peppers but would sprinkle drops of the spiced vinegar over pinto beans and cornbread. etc. I cheated by cooking the cubed potatoes in the microwave to get them cooked before adding to the slow cooker. Joe and I both like potatoes in soup cooked much softer than the slow cooker ever does them. Anyway, glad you guys kept talking. I enjoy hearing from you all. Pizza Cornbread, Hummm that sounds like something Joe would go for. Maybe will have to try that this week. I do have pepperoni, cheese etc. I'm not supposed to eat much salt plus I don't like things with too much of it and most pizzas are loaded. I've found that the plain cheese pizzas in Walmart bakery isle (two sizes) are not that salty tasting. I add chopped green onions, chopped bell peppers, & black pepper over their cheese topping and then add scrambled hamburger to my half and pepperoni to Joe's half. Works out great that way! How many has had "cornbread salad"? I could almost make myself sick eating it. I haven't had it for some time. Once I made it & 1 of the nieces carried what was left, home with her. pp ________________________________ From: "Srod46@aol.com" <Srod46@aol.com> To: palmertree@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, January 28, 2013 2:36 PM Subject: Re: [PTREE] I'm much better now -Milk & Cornbread Hey everyone, well, guess I will live. Have been doing housework all day. I would stop every once in a while to rest and read a couple of chapters in my book. But sure feel a lot better than I have in weeks!! Oh yes, sometimes add a little tomato sauce and extra cheese. Whatever! Gotta run. Nova . In a message dated 1/28/2013 12:57:48 P.M. Sounds to me like you are a "SUPER GOOD COOK!!" Hope you are over your Flu Bug it sure is the pits to be sick whenyou have a lot of thing pressing you. Ed, Is the sun shine & temp in the 70's & you have been able to go golfing early this morning? We had rain during the night, but stopped by the time we got up. We can tell the temp. is changing, but it's almost Feb. I hope everyone is ok. Saw where 2 has been killed, 1 in Tenn. & 1 in Ga. PP
