I worked with a girl who went to N.O for Mardi Gras.  She had got a new camera to take.  Some floats were coming & she wanted to make a picture. It was fun to see  Tom get his trophy award one night at dinner in the hotel. Anyway, it was a great trip and for years now I have tried to tell his now  wife, Veronica that it is still unsuitable for her to travel with him, but she  just laughs and packs her bags!! I love New Orleans. 1. Our senior trip in 1955 we rented a nice  bus & went for a week. There were about four of us girls  way to young to go out to the places most of the kids went to, so the two adults  took us to one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. The Blue Room in the  Roosevelt Hotel, as we walked in the song; "Cherry Pink and Apple  Blossom White" was playing. That place made such an impression on this  16 yr old girl. Never forgot it or the two Cuban looking dancers, when they went  to dance the others cleared the floor and it was fantastic. 2. In the 70s I drove down from where we were living near a base in  Wichita, Kan, dropped the kids off with Mom & Dad and flew down for an R  & R with Joe in N.O.  that was a lot of fun. He was TDY to Florida for  6 mos..  3. In the 1990s  was the trip with Tom. 4. 1999/2000  We left out of New Orleans on a Millennium  Cruise. 5.  Couple of years ago left out of there for another cruise to  diff places. That time his nephew and wife lived there, took us to a Crawfish  Festival. We had a ball, love that zydeco music & ate crawdads  & the other food they had cooked up at the festival. They both married sisters and we've kept up with their families all this time. Both Floyce Ray and both boys have died. All of cancer. Can't you just see me skiing when I can even walk! Probably won't be any snow there. They have a retirement/vacation home at Fort Davis, TX on the side of Blue Mountain! Rocky gets 10 weeks vacation a yr and most is spent down there. It is very peaceful and quiet and they are doing something all the time. It is a nice house but only two bedrooms and he plans to build on another bedroom with a little sitting room like they have at the lake house. He is also going to build a large building out back for a "man cave" which will be a workshop, etc. He says if he can get through the rock he is going to put a cellar under the house. It has a porch around two sides and I can see cars on the highway which is a 1 1/2 away and beyond that I can see mountains in the distance that he says is in Mexico. I will send you a couple of pics when I have time. One time I went with them and we got there about dark, it is 6/2 hours from where they live, and when we got up next morning Amanda was on porch and out from under the porch seven wild hogs, havolina's, came from under the porch and ran down the mountain. She was yelling! We ran out on the porch in time to see them. They were all sizes, even a little tiny one. We haven't seen them since. We do see deer all the time. I just want everyone to know I really enjoy being a member of this list. I like the family history notes of course but I also like how everyone keeps in touch all the time.
